Think this would lap a processor?

Thread Starter
So, I've been thinking about lapping my processor and I was reading what's involved and it came to me that the GF has a bunch of these sanding blocks she uses on her nails just lying around the house in various places. I doubt she'd miss one or 2. They can buff your nails to an insane amount of shiny. I thought for years she used nail polish. Nope. These things.

Think they'd work on a processor? I mean, they're just very light grades of sandpaper on a foam block. I wish I had an old processor to experiment on!

It very well might make it shine, but the whole purpose of lapping is for it to be flat, not shiny.

I would use the real sand paper. Go to your local auto parts store and get it

Sorry, I should have clarified, I know it's about making it flat, but, after you've gotten the initial unevenness out, it's all about buffing it to as smooth as possible of a surface to maximize contact/heat transfer.

I thought these would be useful for the final runs.

Being the case.... why not just continue to 2000 or 2500 grit sandpaper then?

I've got a lapping kit I can sell you for $10 shipped haha, its the same as the easypckits.com full kit, 400-2000 grit sheets and a pane of glass to lap it on
post #8 of 12
I have an old scanner(broken) that I sealed the glass top edges to hold water. The sand paper 2000grit I get wet dry from Autozone of Advance.
