Why is AMD Athlon X2 7750 BE 95W TDP ?

Question quite simple.
I thought it might have been 65W at max, or, like 4850e, 45W.

It consumes as much power as a Phenom X6 9600

It doesn't consume as much power, but that is the max heat output of your CPU.

You would more realistically consume around 75watts 100% load both cores, with a high Vcore like 1.45

Honestly, you really would not be consuming alot of power at all though, normally.

Because it contains four cores, 2 disabled. They still consume a little bit of power though.

Well, comparing to Athlon X2 4850e how would it fare ?
And aren't the Phenom II X4 AM3 CPUs also 95W TDP ?
Doesn't that make this highly energy-inefficient ???

The 7750 blows the 4850 out of the water... the new phenom IIs are 45nm, hence the lower power consumption.

TDP is thermal design power (heat dissipation), not power consumption
(though the 7750 does consume quite a bit of power since it's K10)

So would it be safe for me to wait for cheaper Phenom II CPUs to hit the shelves instead of making a purchase right now ?

Unless you want to wait till the end of Summer for the Phenom II x2 CPUs. I'd just get the Kuma 7750 Black Edition.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this, WHERE YOU GET A PHENOM X6?
Lol AMD should release an X6... are they?
