Need a Video Editing/etc Worstation Under $900 - Page 2

Basically the gaming cards round values in order to render frames faster, while the workstation cards don't. From what I have read the only way to actually benefit from the better image quality is to use Nvidia gelato which all modern cards can use now. So I guess you would have to test both and look at the images to see the difference. But from what I have read it's trivial.

The ram on the card is for rendering your viewport on the fly, haven't run into any problems but most the stuff I do doesn't have insane poly counts.

Your card isn't going to speed up your render time, like I said above, it will just increase your image quality a tiny amount. Plus to even get that quality you have to render only from the card, which I think slows down renders (not sure on this). The workstations at my school have two quad Xeon's and some Quadro card, they render frames slower or about equal to my sig rig and I think that must be why.

Next project I finish, I'll render at home and at school. I'll post images up here so you can see the difference between the two rigs.

silent_nightr34, what did you find so amazing about your card when 3d modeling with it over your last card? I would love to know if I'm missing out.

PS: I mean I model in 3ds max and Zbrush on my laptop all the time, 2.0ghz 4gb ram integrated graphics. Works for me, maybe I just have to get into higher poly counts for it to make a difference.

I'm at school right now, these comps have Quadro FX 4600 in them and I don't see it making any difference for max or Zbrush over my 8800GT.
