Dang, 650TX not enough for my 9800 GTX+ SLI

Thread Starter
Just threw my second one in, but I'm getting random reboots when gaming.

Oh well, I think I'll return it and save up for a GTX 200 series card. I'm quickly noticing that I'm not getting much out of two of these; I'm bottlenecked at the video memory. Time for a 1GB card.

650w should be enough for that rig at full load. I'm thinking something else is wrong.

According to EVGA's website, one GTX 260 has very similar power requirements to two 9800 GTX+'s in SLI.

For the 9800 GTX+ in SLI, they say that a minimum of a 550W PSU is needed that has 30A on the +12V rail.

The GTX+ 260 says it requires a minimum of a 500W PSU with 36A on the +12V rail.

The 650TX has 52A on the +12V rail, so it has to be something else.

Yeah, I thought it should be enough. I can't seem to find any software that will correctly monitor my PSU's 12v... I guess I'll try running the new one by itself, and see how that works out. Either way, I think I'll return it in favor of a 1gb card. 512mb is definitely bottlenecking me on my 24". However, I would like to make sure that the problem isn't my power supply first.

Software monitoring the 12v rail is not necessarily accurate either. My suggestion is to test each card individually. I don't see those two cards + your quad taking up anywhere near 650w, and this is a Corsair PSU here.

You don't want to monitor voltages using software. A multimeter is the easiest and most accurate way.
