k thanks, i was just wondering, cause they have so many more sp, that they should be getting tons more ppd than nvidia... like having 4x 4870x2 per computer in a farm...

With the last few rounds of core updates, the ATI GPU's are showing their 'strength' with the 511 point WU's...taking less of a PPD hit than the nvidia's did..

*I would like to get my hands on a 4830 to mod, for WU testing... might be a new budget performer, with the 96SP 9600's disappearing.

My 4850 @ 790 core can hit 3K~ PPD flat on 511 WU's.

I don't know if that is a huge hit or not.

That is what I get with my 9600GSO @ 600/1836/900.

Two problems I see there though... 1.: no more GSO's worth buying anymore.. and 2: the 500mhz shader increase, is only currently available with Nvidia [as ATI's shaders are locked to sync with core speed].

I am curious to see how a 4830 folds, with clock speeds in the 1ghz range.

Yea, I was just giving a comparison to what it compares to.

Yea, but as CL3P20 said, it is not worth buying (it is $118 shipped). You can get a 9800GT for that price (or less with MIR) and have a better folder. For only $30 more (or only $7 more if you like rebates), you can get a 9800GTX+ and get almost twice the points as a 9600GSO.
