Well with my OC full in ATI Overdrive (790/1100) for my HD 4870 and 29% fan, after about 20-30 minutes, the max temp it got was 84C. That's not bad at all for a video card .

My thought is an unstable OC. I just noticed something yesterday. I installed ATI tool and ran the test. Then went to play CoD4 and my fps was running like 10-30 fps. I was furious b/c it had been fine a week earlier. I then uninstalled ATITool, restarted, and everything was fine.

Like I said ti has nothing to do with a BAD overclock, i can simply bump the core from 625 to 635 and I still get these aforementioned problems.

iirc its due the powerplay settings on the card,if you use something to keep the card alwyas at 3D settings it should work fine.

It's your MEMORY overclock... promise.

I run 2x4830cf with an HDTV. I have a clear line at about 1ghz for the memory. Anything over and I crash doing the dual-monitor thing.

I would suggest putting your gpu clock back to stock, set your memory to something stable, and then slowly increase the memory OC till you hit the wall. Of course, test the monitor crash each time.

The nice thing is you won't have to benchmark for 30 minutes since it's a driver crash.

Another thought is that you could just create a few profiles in the CCC. Keep on that is stock clocks for when you want dual monitors and then keep another one with your overclock settings for gaming.

Good luck.

THanks for the advice...I have already been doing that with the profiles but you probably know that CCC is weird in implimenting profiles, often you have to select it twice to fully engage, OR when i go to my STOCK CLOCK 2 Monitor profile SOMETIMES it will Black screen or BSOD because it turns the second display on before it turns down the overclock.

Of course I can do this all by hand ie. 'reset defaults' on overdrive screen and then select my profile.. i'm just trying to get to the bottom of it and make it less tedious

I DID READ ONLINE SOMEWHERE its my power settings... I messed around with RBE without any success...how do I make it always stay in 3d?

Just noticed...what PSU do you have? 500 is enough usually, but some 500 watt PSU's are really just crappy 350 watt ones.
