problems since cable pulled from PC

Thread Starter
One time, when i had my computer downstairs, my sister was mucking about behind it, and pulled a cable out which caused it to immediately shut down, i'm not sure which cable it was (video, or power cable maybe?) but when i turned the computer back on again, it had cleared its CMOS. After re-overclocking, and re-strabilizing it, i told it to render an image in 3ds Max, and it wasn't having that. It was stable on crysis for around 3 hours on high detail, but it cant render an 800 x 600 image at only about 4 x AA?
I think some of my hardware may be damaged (could it be?), but i have recently built this computer, and i still have all warranties etc. as far as i am aware.
Any help as to what is wrong much appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like she pulled the power cable, and sounds like it may be your power supply... did 3DS bounce you an error when you tried to render or did it just crash out? (I like to say something's "not having that" also, but its not very descriptive )

ah yes, sorry, sometimes it does work and renders nicely, others the program crashes, and sometimes it just makes the whole computer bluescreen

also, looking at your system (FearMeansControl) this is a bit off-topic, but why do so many 3d artists use Linux, when you cant even get 3ds max for linux? Or do they all use maya?

Hmm, every time I've had a PSU problem, it would usually crash the render as soon as CPU usage went up.. If you're able to kick them off without crashing, it may be something else. Try re-seating RAM for the heck of it, but it sounds like a PSU issue

Oh, and the Linux? Yes, I use Maya, We've got 3ds Max as well, It's installed on this machine, doesn't get booted into Windows often, I just use another workstation..

I do OpenGL development that goes way smoother on Linux, running Maya on Linux can be a bit funky at times, but it works.. I try to get into Windows if I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time with it

Maybe it's your HDD?
Harddrives are sensitive for sudden shutdowns like that. You should check if your HDD is alright.
