HDD Failure.. can i now say it's dead??

the LED just switched on(not even blinking).. the system then hangs
restarting>> it will give me 5 seconds before it hangs again..

formating >> it will be formatted successfully but again will give minutes this time before hanging

the weird thing that the hard disk did the same problem before.. but after full formatting the problem disappeared ... this time didn't

is there any software that i can use on repairing that might help ??

You can use the manufacturer disk testing software to check it. You might need to load Knoppix (boot from cd version of linux) to check it.
