I am planning to make a new rig, also i already ordered a memory & case.

I am confused which video cards to get, since the GTX-285 is a newer video card compared to the GTX-295. Also afraid that the next gen video card would be coming out soon. I wanna spend on something that i don't wanna upgrade anymore for 1-2 years.

Yes money is still an issue, i am afraid i might buy a video card now, and 2 months later an even better and cheaper video card would come out.. Maybe a single video card is the best choice?

Should i just wait ? or buy?

Planned Specs:
Processor: I7-920
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Motherboard
Memory: OCZ3X1600LV6GK PC3-12800 6GK Intel Extreme XMP Tri Channel Kit (ordered already)
PSU: Corsair HX1000/Gigabyte Odin 800
Case: Cooler Master Cosmos-S (ordered already)
Cooling: ??
Video Card: ??

Choices: (also added them to poll..)

Single GTX-285 (newer, buy single, wait for next gen?)
Single GTX-295 (buy single ? wait for next gen?)
TRI/SLI GTX-285 (waste of money? bad idea? since Tri-Sli don't scale well, but SLI scales)
Quad GTX-295 (waste of money ? Quad-Sli doesn't also scale well).
Wait for NEXT-GEN(GT212?)

It will be nice if we know what you have. There are always new GPU coming out. The key is to figure out what you need, set a budget and pick the best one from that price range. Also, GTX285 is 182w but the GTX295 is 289w so need to take a look at PSU.

your choice would depend on what mother board you have, what your use's will be
and how much money you want to spend, as for the 212 remure has it Nvidia may skip it and wait for the 300 to come out in late Q-3 maybe 4

Well i am planning to get the GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Motherboard, it should support TRI-SLI/TRI-CFX.

Money is still an issue, since it would be a waste of money if il buy a tri-sli gtx 285 now and 2 months later a better card comes out ? >.>

Well, we also need to know what monitor you have. I'm assuming you have a 22-26" monitor and will be running 1920x1200. And your primary use will be gaming? Do you like running games with all maxed settings? if so, i'd recommend a single gtx295. My rig tears through almost everything i throw at it, and the only reason i'm thinking about adding a second gtx295 is the fact that i got 6k in taxes and already have a 1200w power supply.

But honestly, I think a single gtx295 will suffice for 2 years. I honestly couldn't justify going with two 285s for 700bucks when you can get the 295 for 500. i thought about it when i was building mine, and am happy for going with the 295. If you need to upgrade in 2 years, i'm betting slapping another 295 in there will solve all your problems.

I won't touch the issue of power/performance and such because i haven't researched it. If you want a guaranteed solution to not having to upgrade, go with 295SLI. The way games are going (centered around consoles) you won't need more than that for a while.

I voted Quad GTX-295 for no particular reason other then it would increase your epeen quad fold

Get a single GTX285 and that would keep you until GT300 comes out later this year.
