external drive not being read

Thread Starter
A few weeks ago I had a problem with my pc not booting up, and after asking a lot of questions and doing some googling, I found somebody with the same problem that fixed it by changing their SATA Operation in BIOS.

I did that, everything works great, but my problem now is that my external harddrive (USB) isn't being read anymore. It's like it's not there, however, on my "My Computer" screen, there is a floppy disk that never used to be there, so I assume it's my external?

any help to get it working again is great

hmm...what happens when you double click on that floppy disk? does it bring up you external harddrive contents?
Possible problem is that floppy disk might be assigned the same letter as your external harddrive had causing it not to work. Simply change that floppy disk letter to something else. See if that works for you.

Right-click My computer
click on Manage
On the left handside click on Disk Management
right-click on floppy
select change drive letter
change letter to something else
