[Newegg] Sony Vaio P-Series Netbook Available

Lookie what I found

$900 isn't bad for what you're getting really. GMA 500 is Poulsbo, which means it has unified shaders, rather than pixel pipelines like the GMA950. I'm not sure if it will be any faster than GMA950 though, it should be about half as fast as X3100.

Battery life should be off the charts though

The only thing I find interesting about this laptop is the screen resolution...but that's not really worth being twice as expensive as other netbooks. Not for me at least.

The pouslbo chipset has a TDP of 2.5W. The 945GC chipset that is currently used in netbooks has a TDP of 22.2W. You do the math. It also weighs half as much as the Eee PC 1000.

It's still not worth it to me. I already get 7 hours of battery life...I don't really see the need for more. While that's great and all, I still don't think it justifies the price. The thing doesnt even have a mousepad. And it's got what, like 1 usb port? We're bordering on Macbook Air frivolity here.

EDIT: 2 usb ports.

I so want this, but the fact that.....
-Killzone 2 is coming out
-Resident Evil 5 is coming out
-I need a hard drive upgrade on my PS3 AND laptop
-I need to buy a new motherboard, hard drives, and PSU for my server rig
-Server bills need to be paid

I'm dead broke and this is only a dream for me :-/

Actually its not a netbook, at least according to Sony, but its using the Atom, so it technically is.

Its kinda in between an ultra portable and a netbook. Honestly if this had come out in October I might have gotten it. The screen is nearly as large as my 14.1", and even though my laptop gets over 5 hours of batterly life, this thing is just so much smaller and lighter.

According to Sony it gets 4 hours with the regular battery with "normal use", which actually seems a bit worse than current netbooks, but you have to consider that its basically half the size and weight of current netbooks while offering exactly 2x the screen real estate. The larger battery will get you 8 hours, more if you conserve power a bit.

I would like to see a Poulsbo Aspire or Eee PC though.
