Upgrade from Q6600 to Q9650?

Thread Starter
I currently have my Q6600 OC'd stable at 3.2ghz.

How significant of a performance increase would I get from upgrading to a Q9650 ($449 CDN on sale)

or Q9550 ($359 CDN on sale)

What kind of overclocks are possible. See sig for the rig it's going into...

Thx

about 4, 4.2 for the Q9650. ts cooler and runs about 10% faster than the Q6600 clock for clock.

i suggest you bag the Q9650. or you could have some extra HDD's

Q9650 4ghz easily, possibly 4.5ish depending how your mobo handles the load, best I could get was 4.275 on this board and that was only stable for quick benching.

Edit: seems the P5E is very similar to the maximus formula so you can probably expect similar performance to my system.

I have been thinking of trading my Q6600 in for a newer model too.....

Unless you want some extreme 4+ ghz OCs then just go with the Q9550. You might get to 4, but you'll still have some significant improvements clock for clock.
