That reminds me, a gaming website did a review to see which system would last longer. One of the situtation was that they put the PS3 in a Sauna. They had it run for 12 hours and it was still working fine after those 12 hours. Even after they took it out, it still worked fine. What I'm trying to say here is that your PS3 should be fine. If it does actually overheat, it shouldn't damage it either.

From what the guy at Gamestop told me, If a PS3 overheats it will just lockup. He said let it cool down and it will work again. He also said when they first came out they put them in the Plastic display cases witout the vent holes in the back and they would overheat. Now they have vent holes in the displays and there fine.

I've heard the 40GB models are the sweet spot because they have the 65nm Cell and they also have the older big heatsink.

Lol, you're fine. You've got the 80GB, meaning you've got the 65nm processor. My friend has a 40GB (also the 65nm processor), and after playing his for hours, it barely even gets warm.

I have an original 60GB model with the 90nm processor, and it gets very warm on the plastic around the power button. Yet even after 10+ hours of playing, it's fine. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, although to make sure, maybe you should show us a picture of where you had it so we can tell you if you are getting enough ventilation?

Also, like others said, I think the PS3 cools a bit more efficiently in the vertical position. I've had mine both ways, and I just prefer to have it standing up vertical since heat rises.

Also, just something for you to keep in mind: when you are moving your PS3 around, make sure you take the disc out before you move it. I've heard that the laser can become mis-aligned if you move it with a disc inside. I've never had the laser become mis-aligned after moving my PS3, but the laser did randomly become mis-aligned one day. Rather be safe than sorry.

You had it on the glass TV stand in the corner of those pics? From what I can see, it looks like there's plenty of ventilation there. I don't think you have anything to be worried about.
