No.
Have you tried overclocking the same chip in different boards. I've overclocked my e6600 with 4 different boards. Same result each time.

If you must go Intel, I advise this combo:

e8400
EP45-UD3P

However, I have to urge you to seriously consider the following option, which is $15 cheaper, and will probably deliver better numbers, especially in the long run:

PII X3 720
MA-790X-UD4

With the AMD, you get 1 more core, an unlocked multiplier, and some tasty overclockability.

Just illustrating all of your options.

Between those E7xxx, they have different cpu multi. Get the E7300 or E8400 and Gigabyte EP45-UD3P.

I prefer the AMD for the cheaper price over the Intel combo, for the performance it delivers. Plus, you have overclocking simplicity with the unlocked multiplier.

Most places get to about 3.7GHz with little to no effort.

Links:

Quote:
Overclocked settings:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X3 720 @ 3.727GHz (213x17.5) 1.520v
System Memory: Mushkin Redline PC2-1000 @ 852MHz (5-5-5-12)
Since this is a Black Edition processor you have a lot more flexibility when overclocking to get the highest stable speeds possible. To start off, I raised the voltage and the multiplier 1x at a time until I could no longer stably boot into Windows. Once I hit the wall I backed down the multi by .5x until I was able to boot and run tests stably. Then I started raising the the bus speed while increasing the voltage even more to compensate. Once the system again became unstable I backed off on the bus speed until I could pass tests with no errors. At the end of the process the result was 3.727GHz, which equated to 213MHz with a multiplier of 17.5 at 1.520 volts. Since the stock is 2.8GHz, this is almost a 1GHz overclock, or about a 33% overclock.

Quote:
X3 720 BE
2.8 GHz / 1.325V = Stock
3.3 GHz / 1.325V = Max Stable OC @ Default Voltage
3.7 GHz / 1.50V = Max Stable OC

Quote:
The Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition is multiplier unlocked - and as such, overclocking it is much easier than the locked processors.

It was pretty easy getting it up to about 3.4GHz - I just had to increase the multiplier to 17 - but it took a bit of Vcore tweaking to reach the maximum clock speed of 3.7GHz that I achieved with air cooling.

Don't get me wrong, it was far easier than what I had to go through to reach 3.51GHz with the Phenom II X4 810 in my last review.

In order to reach 3.7GHz, I had to:

bump the Vcore to 1.536V
bump the multiplier to 18.5
That's it.

It was really simple to overclock, and that is one of the major strengths of this chip.

Quote:
With only a bump in CPU core voltage to 1.5v, we were able to take the Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition to 3.6GHz with complete stability. Remember, Black Edition processors are unlocked, so we were able to achieve this overclock by merely altering the CPU multiplier in the system BIOS.

Quote:
Our maximum overclock for both CPU and HTT speed ended up at a 12.5x305HTT setting. This resulted in a 3.812GHz processor clock speed with Northbridge speed at 2440MHz. We initially set our Northbridge speed to 2745MHz but could not hold stability in several of our benchmarks, regardless of voltage settings. We set Core VID to 1.55V, VDimm to 1.68V, CPU/NB Voltage to 1.4375V, and HT to 1.38V. Memory speed is set to DDR3-1627 at 7-8-7-18 1T. Our best performing and highest CPU/HTT setting was at 13x300 for a 3.90GHz core speed, but we could not hold stability in Crysis Warhead, Cyberlink Power Director 7, or the Movie/TV test in PCMark Vantage x64.

I've seen 2 E8400s in the F/S section for approx $135. You might want to look there first.

edit: I just looked and they both are sold.
