Want to use MSN 'in-game'

Thread Starter
Hello!
Alot of the time, whilst playing my favourite games, I want to also have access to my MSN contacts and be able to talk to them, much in the same way as I am able to use Steam in-game to talk to my Steam friends. I know there is supposed to be X-Fire 'Plus' with functionality to add it to X-Fire but that project is currently down. Anybody know of any other ways? Don't say get Xbox live.

Thanks,
Torched.

1)Demand that your friends install and use the X-Fire client for gaming. (intimidate)
2)Negotiate an agreement for a unified messaging client between your friends. (diplomacy)
3)Make your own software for the job. (craft program)
4)Run window maximized to dual monitors so alt+tabbing doesn't take you out of the game. (wisdom)
5)Get Xbox live, really really get it.
6)Throw arms up in the air.

1.) X-Fire isn't my first choice, just Steam doesn't seem to allow plug-ins so I doubt it will work on any level, HOWEVER, I did make my ex-girlfriend get Steam, problem was never bother to log in unless I demanded it by which time she got round to it it was time for one of us to go.
2.) The unified messaging client would be MSN, just can't view it in game.
3.) Have seriously thought of it or modding aMSN etc. to the job but I think i'm a little too lazy to do it.
4.) I don't bother with the 19" CRT now because I'm not able to put it on my desk with my LCD and it's in an awkard position otherwise.
5.) No wai.
6.) Done it. Doesn't help.

I'm personally going to opt for the dual monitor solution myself I think, but yeah I'm in the same shoes as you, I hate alt-tabbing to chat on MSN.

using xfire is not always the best option. i have a friend when using xfire it laggs his games down. but when he uses msn the game runs fine.

also there is vent, teamspeaks. as a few other apps for comunicating during games.

I have never seen anything for MSN to be used in game, except xbox live of course. XFire is a great program, some have issues but if it works its worth it to have. IMO the windowed thing seems to be a great idea, however the only game I have that will play windowed is Flight Simulator. I have a 2nd monitor, and it sure is nice to see what they say instead of bothering to alt tab for something as simple as "lol". I used xfire plus as well, and I know you said the project is down or something, but I had issues with it. I never really got to try it in game. If you could find a 3rd part DL or something, it would be the best option.

No unless he has 256mb of ram.

because thats impossible for xfire to lag games considering how low ammount of resources it uses.

Run game in windowed mode. Alt tab out.

If its a newer source game (TF2 L4D) run the game in windowed mode with no borders. Runs in windowed mode but it still looks like its in full screen and you can alt tab in and out instantly.

Or maybe look into using Trillian, it has a lot of plugins.

This is mostly about ingame web browsers but there are solutions for your problem (including one for MSN) in there: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6204588/

Basically ingame browsers are the solution itself.
