Need a Home Theater system that won't, y'know, nuke my wallet. - Page 4

The Onkyo HTiB is far better than the Logitech, and the Pioneer systems. Seriously save the Logitech setup for people that want an easy computer setup. Even Onkyo's least expensive HTiB will be better than the Logitech

and it can be had cheap http://www.accessories4less.com/make...r-BLACK/1.html

That being said if the OP cares about sound like it seems he wants to he should start with a small system and build up. because I guarantee he will not be happy for long with anything else. So really starting small is the best use of his money.

Ohh tasty thread. Right up my alley... hmm I hate that saying. Whoops.

Now to find a good sound card. DIRECTIONAL AUDIO IN FPS, FTW!

So this is better than this?

Dude, unless the guy is a dedicated audiophile that uses a top end X-Fi / Xonar and has everything in lossless with OFC Cables and a soundproof room, then Z-5500's are AMAZING.

You can't tell how good they are until you have owned them.

I have owned 2 sony systems, a technics 5.1 and other cheap crap.... These Logitecs top the lot.

Infact my dad just went and bought a set to replace the technics in the living room.

I'm tempted to go with The Rocker's suggestion and grab the refurbed Z-5500s, but it's not as if my living room is small - I can't say for sure how large right now, though.

Could't I grab that Onkyo HTiAB set and then upgrade the satellites later on?

I have heard the 5500's plenty of times. I still do not get why people think they are so amazing. The bass is muddy, and the highs are harsh. Not to mention it leaves no upgrade path what so ever.

you most defiantly can do that. In fact that is a great idea. The onkyo even has a pre-out for the subwoofer so you can add a powered sub later. And then later down the line you can upgrade the receiver.

I don't know if you see my point, but you seem like a budget conscious person. So why would you spend your money on something you could not upgrade? Once you do not like the 5500's well you basically have to start over.
