2 nvidia cards for folding on a x48

Thread Starter
I know i can't run sli on my x48 mobo but if i bought 2 nvidia cards could i fold on both and just use 1 for games or is it going to cause problems? how are the 4870's folding as opposed to 9800gtx or 285's as far as ppd? would i be better off just getting the 4870's?

Yes, that's fine.

4870's fold at around 5000ppd max... the 9800GTX's fold at around 6400ppd max... the GTX 285's fold at around 9000ppd max

ATI cards are not great for folding, I'd recommend you get something like two 9800 GTX+

how bout 2 of these?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130420
is there a ppd diffrence between a 4870x2 and a 4870? or does folding still only use 1 cpu on the gpu.
I feel like its kind of a waist to have 2 vid cards and only be able to use one for games. how will a 9800gtx+ be with like a 40-46" 1080p lcd tv? Because i need a new tv anyway and figured i'd hook the computer up too it also.

I have two GTX 260s on my SLI board and I don't use them for SLI. I bought the second one so I could always have something folding in my sig rig. I really like the ability to stop and play a game, and still have the other card folding away. It works just fine as long as the overclocks are stable.

The real problem is that I cannot run SLI for some reason. Whenever I enable SLI and try to play a game my system freezes. I have no idea why. I have used SLI in the past, but then I had the same GTX 260 card. Now I have two separate brands so I blame that.

I cannot get my Vista to come out of SLI.

Using Win7 for folding as we speak and it has never been set up as sli. When 08/01/09 comes around not sure what I will do.

u can run 2 nvidias in ur x48, the 4870 get more than 5K , it just depends on the W/U, im new to ATI folding too so im not sure u can use the 2 cores of the X2,on the HARD W/U 511 i get 3k PPD with my 4870 , the only thing i can tell u is the 4870 competes with 8800 gt(folding), but games like the 260, so ATI is not that bad after all.
