[Shack] Gabe Newell: Left 4 Dead Half-price Sale Saw 3000% Increase, Beat Launch #'s - Page 8

i prefer digital copies over steam myself cause id lose my head if it wasnt attached. and i have a clean freak of a wife who designates anything of mine remotely out of place as a mess and never see things again. with steam ill always have a copy of my game. but i do agree the price should be a whole lot less since they arent spending money on shipping, materials or anything else. Just giving you a copy of something for 60$ is highway robbery.

The bandwidth it takes to get it to you is worth more than a MAYBE 1USD worth of packing materials. Why do you guys fall back on the fact of having a plastic box with a disk and making it seem like that is the bulk of what you pay for??
/off topic and final post
Seems like you guys keep forgetting that bandwidth is NOT cheap, in fact it probably costs more to get the game to you via DD than to put it on a 25cent disk. Not to mention giving us great online service for FREE and free DL content on all Valve games.

While some of you prefer the disk/brick and mortar method, others prefer for the simplicity of DDs and do not care about a Plastic case with a disk inside and a one page leaflet congratulating you on your purchase. Heck, people like me actually save money on DD because its either I pay 50 bucks online and have it, or I spend 5 bucks on gas to drive into town and pay 50 bucks that way. Either way, we all have our own personal preferences.

But when you consider how these servers are maintained by advertising dollars, it's probably not costing Steam/Valve very much at all. Games sold online should cost less. By how much? At least a little. But people like that "instant gratification" feeling, so Steam can get away with it.

Do you honestly think STEAM can dictate their own prices for 3rd party games? This itself is evidence that Valve can change their own prices on the fly, and see major gains from it. But - it doesn't mean that they can just willy nilly change prices for games they aren't even publishers for.

It just doesn't work that way. They wouldn't see a single dime of profit.

I wasn't going to respond, but that last comment was just pitiful. I am clearly talking about coding errors and not some aspect of the game design that you dislike. If you consider yourself to be in reality, then you cannot ignore what you don't like and fill in the holes you just created to suit your own purpose like you've been doing repeatedly. In the case of your last post, you completely ignore that the entire subject began on the topic of game errors and instead try to pawn off the idea that you simply stating you don't like something about the game idea constitutes you finding a flaw in the coding.

My position was explained just fine. I repeated myself from my first posts and you now magically understand? Clearly I didn't have to explain myself better then. Don't defend him and/or his point of view and you won't be lumped with him.

That is why your point is self-defeating. They compete with brick and mortar so they don't care what they think but best believe that if ALL steam games were 25% cheaper ALL the time, then those stores would cease to carry the games... You do know this, right?! Its the same reason why buying products directly from the maker ( example, buying through sony instead of best buy ) usually is MORE expensive at the MRSP. product producers can't afford to piss off people who carry their products
You do have a point here, but I am not saying it has to be 50% off. In fact, I have yet to put a number on what I think the prices should be. Regardless, dropping the price by $5 is not going to put brick and mortar stores out of business. Oh, and I actually did mention the possibility of stores ceasing to carry video games in a previous post. Guess you missed that.
