Reinstalled Windows, now what

Thread Starter
So I've reinstalled Windows and formatted my HDD with my OS. I make my user account and boot. I install a few drivers such as my wireless internet usb thingy, GPU, and my new hawt gaming mouse.

1. What do I do now? Why are there no icons on the desktop? ???

2. Do I need to put in my mobo drivers disc or am I good?

3. What else?

4. Mx518 is a very sexy mouse, 1800 dpi lulz

Well since you just installed your OS there is not going to be any icon unless you put them there. Or install programs that you want there icon to be there. you need to load your mobo drivers if not get the up to date ones through the manufactures webstie.
Make sure yous OS has all the recent updates
Make sure your graphics driver is up to date http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_182.06_whql.html
Do you have an anitvirus program
I would download spybot each and destroy,AVG,or malwarebytes (all free

The reason you have no icons depends on the theme you are using. If you are using the default XP theme then you will probably only have the recycle bin.

Go to your device manager and see if there are any items with a yellow triangle next to them, that means you need to install the drivers for that item.

Drivers and updates and then any other software you like.

They don't show up because they weren't installed on that OS. Programs can't really be moved between OS's. They need to installed each time.

stanrc is corrected...

You can't move programs to another drive and then reformat and expect to show up in your add/remove programs. They are no longer installed on your PC and no longer have registry entires.

You will need to reinstall all of these programs

Follow Juggalo23451 advice...

I would start with your windows updates and go from there
Anti-virus would definitely be my next suggestion: get either Avira AntiVir or AVG. I used to run AVG but now run Avira AntiVir.
Checkout zone alarm or commodo if you are interested in a firewall.

Next hit up your manufacturers website for drivers and install all of those. From there start installing programs you know you will need right away and the rest can come on a "as needed" basis.

Check you post as I posted some advice there for you...

good luck

cheers
