9600 gt sli?

Thread Starter
I currently have the very nice XFX 9600 GT and now have 50 dollars in my bank account to blow on some computer parts. I thought about some more g.skill but I don't even use my 4gb now, sound card would be nice but not worth the performance, and I don't have enough to get a nice big hard drive. I'm currently looking at another 9600 GT for SLI.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814127382R

Cheap MSI one, I saw some other ones on Newegg but I don't really want to have to reach for money past 70 dollars. Don't tell me about the 60 dollar Sparke card on shocker the other day, I know.

From my thoughts another 9600 GT will keep my performance in games up for awhile and could last me until the GTX 300 series comes out. I thought about the 200 series but my current 9600 GT does wonders and another one would probably tie things off until Q4. Opinions?

i would say go for it, it will give you an amazing performance increase, specially on a 19' monitor, unless you had some extra cash , to get other stuff i wold say going sli is well worth it

I love my SLI setup, I have almost no stutter and am about to run some more benches as I just got 4GB's more ram, any specific benches you want me to run? I would be glad to

Yeah, I'm playing on my 22" but still I already get solid performance in most games so this would keep it good for awhile. Everything else I just want for college which I'm going to finance with my money from working over the summer.

Edit: I would be interested in Left 4 Dead performance with SLI, that is one of the only games I get fps dips in right now.

I'm not sure, that sli'ed pair of 9600 would be able to handle demanding games, but if you think that gt 300 series will appear soon and it's price is ok to you, then make a sli.
I thought about pair of 9800gtx+, but decided to buy one gtx260. So, it's up to you what to do. To buy an old-style chip, and wait for new one, or to sell 9600 and buy 200 series.

If your gpu is really performing wonders, than buy a second one and there will be twice more miracles

If you are getting stuttering now then something is wrong, L4D is not demanding at all and a single 9600GT was able to max it out for me at 1680x1050 and all the filters maxxed

Well its more of a money thing, I would love a gtx 260 now. SLI is really the only option as upgrading to something like an 9800GTX is not worth the performance upgrade. By the time I could get money for a nice card I wouldn't want to buy it with a 300 series around the corner.

Haha, nah man I get great performance in Left 4 Dead but I'm going to be playing competitively and will be recording which really kills your frames.

My system performs close to a GTX 260 in most games at 1680x1050, at higher resolutions the GTX 260 beats it but I don't need that much bandwidth. Another 9600GT is an awesome option for you and SLI is optimized with L4D very well

looking at your setup a 2nd 9600 would really be the way to go IMO.

Those things bench quite well, and i set myself up for a future cheapo upgrade with a 2nd 9600 for that exact reason.

Ive had sli 9600GT and now a GTX260. The main thing I noticed between the two was on Far Cry 2 @1920x1200. The 9600s could max everything except I had to put the AA on 4x. The GTX 260 can max it and have 8xAA.

Buy another its worth the money.
Yes it's AMD.
