1. What will the laptop be used for? Gaming? School?
2. How big do you want the laptop to be?
3. Any features you must want in the laptop?
4. Notebook or Netbook?

when you say dedicated graphics, do you mean dedicated high end graphics or low end? because if you want low end you may as well get one with intel integrated. high end cost so much and makes the laptop so heavy it may as well be a desktop with heat issues.

also:

http://www.ebuyer.com/search?page=1&...10&subcat=2114

probably the cheapest in the uk not counting second hand or ebay

also you should buy a laptop with 2gb ram and buy a cheap stick of 2gb ram, ebuyer sells them for £17.99

Samsung R510
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/154875 £479.99
with another Kingston Ddr2 2gb stick since it only has 3gb
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/147902 £21.69

to be honest for £500 its hard to find a decent and sturdy laptop with 4gb. my personal recommendation is a Lenovo Thinkpad as their chasis is alot stronger than other laptops ive encountered.

See if you can get a Vostro, paid £600 for this 1.5 years ago. So you should be able to find something comparable.
