GeForce 9800GTX+ or 4870?

Thread Starter
Hey all,

My friend is putting together a budget build, and I was wondering what your opinion would be. He doesn't want to spend a lot of money, so do you think this card would be good? He's thinking of getting a 4870 as well, but its $280 as compared to $160 for the 9800. Opinions and advice would be great. Thanks!

If he's worried about moneh, then 9800GTX+

If moneh is not an issue, then the 4870 fa sho.

I'm picking up a 9800GTX+ soon enough myself, supposed to be great cards.

Well what kind of motherboard does he have?

if he has a crossfire capable motherboard, get a 4850, or a 4870

If he has a SLI capable motherboard, get a 9800GTX+

If his motherboard can't do either, get a 4850, or a 4870.

nVidia uses 9800GTX+ to match 4850 so 4870 is better than 9800GTX+. 9800GTX+ is still pretty powerful GPU for budget build. If he have SLI board, get 9800GTX+. 4850 for CF board.

Get a 9800GTX+ or a GTX260 if you can push that high with your cashola.

You could get a 9800GTX+ and then buy a second one in a couple of months for SLI seeing as you have a nVidia 750i Board.

First off,

You're comparing Apples to Oranges with those two cards.

Second, What is the budget??

Third, if he can afford $179.99 + Shipping; Get that card above. Killer deal, and better than the 9800GTX+.

You would need to spend 204.99 on a EVGA GTX 260 (192 sp), 65nm, to get something comparable. Cheapest 216 sp version is 229.99 on the egg.
