HELP: MoBo settings changing back

Thread Starter
Hey everyone!
well here's the problem.
I've had my MoBo overclocked for a few weeks. it was working perfectly fine, it wasn't a huge overclocking and temperatures were fine. Then, a week ago i decided to overclock the videocard. it was also fine, the settings weren't very different. I used the nvidia panel control (I know it's not recommended but it was the only way i was able to OC it). But now the computer is going crazy. Randomly the computer hangs(no blue screen) and i have to shut it down the hard way. after it happened a couple times i tried to set the mobo back to the stock settings. i thought it fixed it, but NO. it hung again and it went back to the OC settings. i thought that was really **** up. I tried again a couple times. making sure it turns off normally. but it still happened. so i tried flashing the bios. taking out the battery. taking out the jumper. NOTHING WORKS.
I'm really freaking out i dont know what's going on. no matter what do i do. the bios keeps changing back to the OC settings
i dont wanna get another mobo. if anyone has any suggestion please...

When you say that you removed the jumper, did you put it on the other pin? I say it that way because, of course, the middle pin must always be occupied by one part of the jumper.

If all you did was remove it and then put it back exactly where it was, then this had no effect.

If you did, then the only thing that I can think of is perhaps you need a new BIOS or CMOS chip. I mean, just like you, I cannot think of any reason why it would do such a crazy thing.

But I am curious: do you have the P33 bios now?

Yes, I did change the jumper to the other pins. and reset the bios. but it's still happening.
also i noticed that sometimes my USB ports stop working randomly. and i have to change my keyboard or mouse to another port. this is all really weird. Is there anyway to erase everything from the bios? so that the old settings don't come back. I was gonna try taking out everything from the MoBo. i already tried removing the ram.

I think it all started when i installed diablo(the first one) I know there were some issues with vista and all that but... this problem has gone way too far... dont you think?

And i do have the P33 bios. that was the latest i used. maybe I should try downgrading it. do you have any website where i can get that. it usually takes me a while to find them.
thanks

I had this same problem... From what I remember all I had to do was update BIOS, and remove battery for like 5 mins, with the jumper resetting the BIOS...

Whoa. I think that's crazy that it started ever since installing Diablo. I mean, yeah, I think this has gone way too far!

As for downgrading, I discovered that EVGA has not deleted their old BIOS .ISO's! Check it out!

ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P28.iso
ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P29.iso
ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P30.iso
ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P31.iso
ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P32.iso
(I would've included older ones, but this is just an example)

As you can see, all you have to do is change the BIOS version number. However, I don't know what would happen if you used a really old BIOS version. The versions are as follows: P20, P21, P23, P24, P25, P26, P27, P28, P29, P30, P31 and P32.

If you prefer a .bin or .exe, then the same holds true. Here are two ftp URL's you can use:

ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P33.bin

ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/NF68_P33.exe

Again, just change the BIOS version.

*sigh* well downgrading the mobo didn't work. it still hanged and BIOS went crazy as before.
but i think the problem was diablo and it messed up vista.
i went to my windows 7 partition. I ran a torture test for a few hours and it was fine. while my vista partition hanged in the first 20 min.
im gonna try to do a windows repair and see if that helps...
at least is good to know that i wont have to return my Mobo(i think...)

I'm not really an expert, so this is almost more of a question than anything: I don't see how doing a Windows repair will affect the BIOS. In fact, I don't see how Diablo could affect the BIOS. Beyond that, I don't see how any software, other than BIOS tweaking software, could screw up the BIOS so that it behaves this way. I mean, I can remove my hard drives and still be able to overclock and adjust the BIOS all I want. I know you knew that, but I'm just saying that I don't see how even the operating system can affect the BIOS. It just sounds like perhaps the CMOS chip needs to be replaced. Can those things even be replaced?

Either that, or perhaps you have some BIOS tweaking software installed that's screwing things up. I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud now.
