I'm really trying to make a build for a friend, and upgrading mines a bit while I'm at it. Giving some old parts to him.

My plan is to get the X3 along with the newer chipsets coming out in Q4, and DDR3.

Any objections?

And The_Leetard179 - We'll have very similar setups. That is, considering the 7750 and 790x in my Newegg cart.

With that said, is there anything you don't like about your processor?
Err its a great chip and all. But for not much more, you get another core, you get DDR3 support, and you get a much better OCer

I would HIGHLY suggest the 720BE as you would not even notice much going from K8 @ 3ghz to K10 @ 3.3~ghz

Get the 720. If you get the 7750, you'll probably regret it.

The 720 is not JUST about the unlocked multiplier (as opposed to the 710). It overclocks a lot easier and higher, too. I've seen reviews where the 710 topped at really early (like at 3.0 or something) and the 720 got to 3.5 easily. They might've been going for stability, but the 720 over the 710 is a no-brainer IMHO.

The 720 is the best AMD cpu to get your hands on right now. Be it for games, ocing, multitasking or w/e, it just makes no sense to buy a 7750 right now. There's a reason if everybody tells you to go for the 720 you know. If one guy was telling you this, ok it might be a personal opinion. But come on, you've got like everybody in here telling you not to make a mistake, so you might wanna second-guess your purchase of a 7750. Nuff said.

Thread Starter
Well, I think I'll be able to pull off a 710. Maybe even a 720. Depending on how I can orchestrate the budget. I still think the 7750 is a great budget chip, and is a big step up from my 3600+, as I can't get it stable at 3GHz anymore. And it's a Phenom.

But you guys are right. I'll try to wait for the 720 to go down to it's MSRP, if not I'll just get the 710.

Again, trully it WILL be worth your while if you just wait for the 720.
Forget the 710 and 7750. Yes, both of them are still good cpus and rather cheap too, but the 720 is just one level above. As some people said above, the 710 sometimes has probs going past 3.3/3.4 while the 720 gets to 3.5 on air pretty easily.
I was just like you wondering on which cpu I was gonna buy for my new upgrade, well after reading a few fast reviews online I went over to the shop and ordered a 720. I gotta wait for it til monday and god knows it's gonna be a long weekend, but I know it'll be worth my while so I'm ok
