Weird problem O.C. I7 920

Thread Starter
I overclocked my 920 to 3.78 and it has passed 10 hours in prime 95 blend test. I decided to download Real Temp and ran the sensor test, the test was running fine until t got to like the 5th test of cooling down and it crashes. What does this mean? it seems to run fine as long as its running full speed but when Real Temp does its cool down test it crashes? It also runs the test fine at 160x21 and 133x21.

My settings are:
Bclk: 180
Vcore: 1.275
Cpu PLL: 1.8
Dram voltage: 1.6
QPI/Dram: 1.3

Welcome to OCN. Try bumping the vcore up a notch.

Blend testing does not stress your CPU as much as SmallFTT, which I think is what Real Temp uses to do Sensor Test.

As advise by Br3nd064, increase your vcore.

bump the nb volts

thanks for the replys guys, I thought Blend would stress it enough but obviously not so what I did was up the Vcore to 1.31 and it has passed it twice so I guess ill run small FFTs overnight to see if its stable. Now my temps are hitting 70 though

Don't be let the high temps get you down, they do affect stability but Intel has designed there chips to run fairly stable under very high temp's. So if you can get it stable then I wouldn't say 70C is too extreme but that is about as high as you want to see. IMO

Going past your CPU's max voltage is the real killer.

There are alot of people running their core i7 over 70-80c. Thats a bit much for me, I prefer 70c and below.

If it crashes under any circumstance, it's not stable. You still have a little room to bump up voltages, but watch the temps as you do..

Alright, I'm seeing people from many different points of view talking about temps and setting of all different makes and configurations.

I'm seeing real temp sensor movement 29 22 27 12.

Where do I go from here. During the test all four of my cores sat at 100 degrees. My MB monitor was reading about 79 degrees.

I'm running a i7 920 at:
175x20

v core at 1.3375
QPI at 1.335
dram at 1.66

On top of a Gigabyte Extreme
OCZ 1600 low voltage ddr3 ram (6gigs)
Corsair 1000
Thermaltake Spin Q orb.

If you need any other info, ask.

I'm just not sure if what I'm seeing is correct or if I'm misinterpreting

I hate bumping, but I'm really concerned about this and I wrote this quite late last night.
Again, sorry for the bump.
