Why is the pII better with graphics? The res that he has will overpower the 260

I'd get the PHII build though, better gaming performance and thats all you care about right?
As of right now yes.
I will be doing some number crunching, but it will be done overnight, not while I am at the PC, and will probably not take more than 1 hour even on my current PC.
I will be doing VM's for school, but do not need any more speed than my current system.

I think the PII is where it's at.

If you plan on multi gpu, id go with i7 for it scales much better. Otherwise, PII is great and cheap too.

get i7 bro, 6gb ram vs 8gb = no difference.

gtx 260 = a 4870 and two 4850's might be a little bit better then a 260 but the cpu will make up for that.

Well I can't lie. Between the two systems in the OP, the Ph2 will probably perform better in games due to the 4850 CF vs single GTX260. Of course, if the i7 system were to have the 2x 4850 as well...

As stated, drop the extra 4gig of memory, save that $50 and put that into getting 2 4870s.
Buy the PII, get the same performance in games, use the leftover $ for alcohol / bar trips. Meet some girls and "expand" your circle of friends to "diversity" your gender ratios...

Go with the I7

That chart doesn't hold any water, because he's going to be using crossfire AMD vs. single GPU Intel. Watermelon to apples comparison.

8GiB of RAM is a waste.

All things being equal, it's blatantly obvious that the i7 would be faster.

However, with the components in the original post (not that grate a selection, IMO), the Phenom II setup will be the superior gaming system.

It's not better with graphics, or much of anything (cept price).

Two 4850s is certainly faster than a single GTX260 though.
