PII v i7 Gaming ONLY - Page 7

i7 920 - $300
Cheapest X58 mobo - $180
6GB of DDR3 RAM - $120

Total: $600

Phenom II 940 - $230
AM2+ mobo with 2 PCI-E slots - $110
8GB of DDR2 RAM - $80

Total: $420

If he goes with the Phenom II, he can spend $180 more on the graphics card. I would say that $180 makes a huge difference. A GTX 260 is $200. He can spend $380 on graphics for the Phenom II build.

At that price he can get an open box 4870X2.

Oh and congrats on the new rig coming! You'll have a hard time hating it

I would go with the Phenom II, but I wouldnt get two 4850's.

Simply because it seems that the games that really need Crossfire or SLi just cant seem to fully support the two functions to its full capability. Go with a PII 940 and a GTX280.

I agree, if you have the money, go single card, for as long as that single card can run 99% of the games on full settings, and the 280 and 4870 still can!

everywhere i look in the AMD FORUMS, people keep thinking that "PII" is referring to a pentium II...

is everyone that out of touch?!?!?

i mean, i realize that PII was the moniker used for the pentium II, like back in the 20th century, but we've got 9 years behind us in the 21st century. does anybody really think that anybody is talking about a pentium II when the abbreviation "PII" is thrown out there?

i'm just baffled.

it wasn't aimed just at you, it seems like everywhere i look somebody is saying "PII... i thought you were talking about a Pentium II"... in an AMD forum nonetheless.

just find it amusing how many people say that.
