okay guys. im looking at upgrading my sig rig for $400-500. im thinking cpu, mb, and video card. i game some, but mostly just use it for internet and whatever.

so cpu. intel or amd. quad or dual core.

mb. needs to be expandable and a decent oc'er.

vid card. only going to run one and id prefer to stay nvidia because its what im used to.

so give me some ideas and why i should go with what.

thanks guys.

Intel e5200: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116072
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358
Mushkin 4gb DDR2-1066: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146785
XFX 9800gt: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.163255

Total: $412

If you wanted to get a better CPU cooler on the cheap:
Xigmatek HDT-S1283: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233003
Retention bracket: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233019

Grand total: $508

e5200's are stupid crazy overclockers and the 9800gt will max everything at your resolution (except Crysis).

hmm. what do u guys think about the e8400 and a 9600gt. and either the ud3p or the ud3r
post #5 of 8
The E8400 is a good cpu as well if you're not going to do intensive video encoding. IMHO stay ahead of the game and buy a Quad cpu. The UDP3 would be ideal if you're going to use 2 video cards. UD3R will only allow one video card.

I'm not a gamer so video cards for me is just used for graphics and playing back videos. I'm sure other members here will give you their inputs as well.

I'd pick the 8400 over the 8200 anyday. If you wanna go quad, your best bet would be to purchase the 6600 6700 or 9550. The later one is expensive and wouldn't fit your budget.

I'd go with a Q6600-6700
750i SLI MOBO
9800GT

That way you can SLI later down the road if you want more performance from your rig. That came up to around $470 before rebates, which after would be around $430.
