how and should i overclock my 8600 gts?

Thread Starter
I have a evga 8600 gts, idling at 65, going to 75 at max. Should I overclock this or is it at a already high temp? And If I should, how should I overclock it?

You can overclock by using rivaturner http://downloads.guru3d.com/RivaTune...nload-163.html or
the evga precision tool http://www.evga.com/precision/
and evga Gpu voltage tuner http://www.evga.com/articles/00462/

lol im using evga precision, ocd my core up 25, and running atitools for artifacts and its running 85 C. Is that ok?
I was thinking of doing this even though my 8600 BFG came over clocked

the core is at 710 vs the 675 standard and the memory is at 2000Mhz

Instead of pushing mine further I upgraded the card and noticed about 8x better performance.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131129

thats a Rad HD 4830 a card that benchmarks on par with a 9800 gt difference is the card is only 75 bucks lol I love it. If you got the money and dont mind radion then I would go with this

I wouldn't advise overclocking it at those temps. While in game they should be lower it's still pretty high.

Increase the fan speed through eVGA Precision if you haven't already and report us the temps.

ok this is what i did
oc'd core and memory by 25, put fan to a 100 and got 85C the whole time

Don't overclock until you get a better cooler. Any decent cooler would be getting much lower temps are stock speed/voltage.

Intel's thermal spec for the E8600 is 72.4°C, so don't exceed that.

Well reseat the cooler with better thermal paste such AS5, MX-2, etc. and clean out any dust if any.
Also how good is your airflow in the case? A slot exhaust fan will do wonder with temps.

This is for his GPU and he doesn't even have an E8600.

Yea yea, just caught that. I skimmed the thread, caught '8600' and '85 degrees'.
It's early... haven't made coffee yet
