Help me OC

Thread Starter
Hi folks, this is my first post here. You can see my rig's config below so help me OC it. I'm totally n00b at it so don't know to start from where and what. Recently I've installed a 80mm fan at the back of my motherboard, in slot provided in my CM690 case and also replaced the reference cooler of my MSI R4850 with AC Accelero S1 Rev 2 and Turbo Module of S1.

You have a really nice cooler for the GPU, why not buy a good cooler for the CPU also?

The stock cooling is pretty bad.

Welcome to OCN!

I also have a CM690 but I didn't understand what you were saying about an 80mm fan at the back of the motherboard. Are you talking about the rear case exhaust? And that would be a 120mm fan if that's the case. The CM690 is a great inexpensive case for air cooling.

Hi and WELCOME to OCN

Do check the guides posted and a few things to note..
C1E and EIST which are thermal managment that down clock the system when its not under load and should be Disabled when OCing.
Be patient
Many useful utilities like OCCT, Orthos and Prime for load testing and others are available in our Doenloads section. CPU-Z is a helpful little utility that will give up various timings that cah help you to see what is Default and later the changes caused by OCing.

I'm talking about the vent on the right panel of the case. The vent is for 80mm fan and it is placed on the plate with 2 screws. I've placed a Cooler master 80mm Silent fan there too since I haven't applied any after-market cooler on the CPU, so I hope this one would help. I've also placed a 120mm fan, firing air on the CPU on the top. Now my CPU is cooled by :
  1. Stock heat sink and a fan
  2. Rear Exhaust 120mm fan
  3. Top 120mm Intake fan, blowing cool air on the CPU
  4. 80mm fan on the right side of the panel

Looks like you have a lot of airflow around the cpu, but having an aftermarket heatsink will dissipate heat into the flowing air much more efficiently. It will also give you much needed overclocking headroom once you start giving more voltage to the cpu.

After you've read some of the oc guide links, go ahead and download cpu-z, core temp, hwmonitor, and prime95. I've used these software and they are solid. I would start the oc by giving it a safe bump on the voltage ie. 1.325-1.35ish and start raising the fsb until it becomes unable to boot into windows then fine tune. Make sure your have your pcie freq at 100 and ram divider at 1:1.

There is a good deal on an AC Freezer 7 Pro in the for sale section. That will help you out a lot as stated above.
