X2 5200

Thread Starter
I'm doing an upgrade on a friends computer and I told him to get a 7750 BE. But the salesman at the computer parts store sold him on a 5200 instead.

I was just wondering if the 5200 will OC well? I don't want to do anything major with it (since its just a web/email PC and has stock cooling) But I wanted to get it up to 3.0 maybe 3.2?

The salesman probably sold him what he needed instead of overkill for his needs. Why overclock this cpu if the computer is only going to be used for surfing and emails? Seems like overclocking will give zero performance increase, it's not like these apps take a lot of computing power.

Both of those AMD chips run a bit hot, I'd leave it at stock speed and undervolt as much as possible without inducing instability for those uses. If he wants a cheap overclocker the intel 5200 is the way to go!

The reason I want to OC it is cause he may or may not be using this PC as a media center in the future and I didn't want the CPU to be the bottle neck. He picked up an ASUS M3A78-EM mobo with the 780G chipset and integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics.

Would the integrated graphics be able to handle 1080i with the 5200? Or would it need the OC boost?

Thanks, I guess I'll hold off on the OC since he won't need it.
