Team competition issue

Ok guys I know I'm pretty new to the folding concept, but I eventually want to be competitive. My concern is whether or not team point counters are ever reset. I know im folding for the cause and not necessarily personal gains, however when the stats are posted, my competitive nature rears its ugly head.

Being that I just started folding a few weeks ago, even considering that Im using multiple quad core machines 24/7 will I ever be able to actually compete for rank spots? If they dont reset I'm gonna be hard pressed to catch up to the top ranked guys. Considering they are pulling in tons of points a day, and are already millions of points higher than me it would seem pointless to even be on a team that I can't EVER be competitive with.

Well in a team competition , u put ur points in the team name , and to be a top folder takes time (almost a year for me and im 118 ATM), so with a few weeks u will no see much ur u may , but just by patient u would get there

Longevity is the answer. People come and go. Sticking it out is how you get higher ranked. You can also satisfy your competitive nature by averaging the highest dailybtotal. Hope this helps.

Its not about competition its about folding
Anyway, your Rank will climb fast and I see you've already climbed 81 levels And from what your progress states, you'll move up 5 more in just 1.1 hour too!!!

Right on .. I was just curious because say if I was pushing 20 k a day .. ( for instance) and the leaders are doing 21k .. being that they have a few year head start .. to catch up would be a LOOONG time.

I understand its for the cause, and I'm not complaining. I was simply curious as to how newer folders can catch up ..

Thanks for the replies guys. I am a Network administrator for a large lawfirm that has q6600 chips in every secretaries dell computer. They use MS WORD and Outlook, so they fold now 24/7. Eventually I'll have about 30 more q6600's goin.

If you want to be competitive in the current team competition, you will need the following.

(1) A CPU that is o/c'ed to at least 4.0GHz.(it should be more like 4.4GHz-4.5GHz)

(2) Linux or VMware and Ubuntu for the folding client.

(3) Either very fast or highly overclocked RAM

This is what the current leaders use. Those members have been competing for a long time. They have their rigs dialed in, and get every ounce of performance out of it. If you want to be competitive against those guys, you need to do your homework.

Well I assure you any PC of mine will be ran at its most optimal setting possible. I'm no noob when it comes to overclocking. I just swapped from an 8600 to a 9650 for my main rig .. but i haven't fired her up yet to start clocking.

I should hit her around 4.2-4.5, as you can see my rig is just about as good as it gets aside from i7. I already run VMware to get my linux fix I wouldn't imagine GPU folding would work very well on a virtual machine, correct me if I'm wrong.

My machine on top of the 30-60 secretaries pcs w/ q6600's ( obviously stuck @ stock speeds) hopefully will move me up quick. FYI Nova .. you best be protecting that 3 spot cuz IMMA COMIN! LOL

And your worried about catching up

I'm, worried about you overtaking me J/K but at that rate you will likely do so some day

Wow, I'd hate to run SMP on all those clients. Talk about headaches when they stop wanting to work.
