Fill in the gaps between the Heatpipes and fins. I rubbed it in to the gaps very well to make sure there were no air pockets. ( Any air pockets or tiny bubbles between CPU and Cooler can greatly affect results.)
Then wipe off any excess leaving only the TIM between the heatpipes and aluminum fins, then apply to to HDT Cooler as shown in the link. And Pic from link. Link again

One last thing. Prior to application make sure the HSF and CPU are clean. To do this use Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ pure (This is available from the chemist Drug store, and is very inexpensive.) or something like Arcti Clean and a lint free cloth or coffee filter paper. A clean HSF and CPU are very important for best performance. Good luck.

Yeah maybe that is the best method. I always have a bottle of IPA at my side (India Pale Ale) and also a bottle of 99% pure Isopropyl Alcohol I use it for cleaning up TIM. Really tough gunky stuff like what NVidia put on my GTX260 I use acetone and then finish up with IPA (the isopropyl version that is).

It took me a few attempts to work out what was the best amount of TIM to use, and I found different types of TIM required a slightly different amount to be applied, it is a bit of trial and error to get the right amount in each situation, as no two computers and environments will be exactly the same.
Also some TIM's like what I use require a slightly different method again. But basically the same.
I use IC Diamond and swear by it, the best results of any TIM I have used.

Well over the years I have gathered together Arctic Silver 5, Ceramique, Thermalright Chill Factor, and MX2. Haven't tried IC Diamond yet. Of my choices that I have in my inventory I thought MX2 would be the best but do you think I should try one of the others?

So Dicko, what temps are you getting? I just noticed your G0 is at almost the same voltage and speed as mine.

Of the ones you have I have tried Arctic Silver 5, Arctic Ceramique, and MX-2. I found MX-2 and Arctic Ceramique both pretty close in performance, and they were both a few Deg better than AS5. I found IC Diamond a few Deg better than any other I have tried up to now.
You should just try what you have and see what works best for you, then perhaps give the IC Diamond a go.

I have a pic of my temps on an earlier post At about 27 deg room temp, not case temp. I can show the pics of results with other TIM's if you like.

OK. Thanks. I couldn't read anything in that pic originally so I just copied it to my desktop and that worked better. So you are at 1.36V 3.4GHz and 58C core under Prime small FFT with 27C room. That seems better than what I am achieving. I am at 1.44V and 3.6GHz but under Prime95 I get over 65C on some of the cores. Looks like I can definitely improve.

Maybe I should try dropping it to 1.36V and 3.4GHz and see what I get. At least we would be comparing apples and apples (other than it is Winter here in Canada and my basement is cool... probably about 18C I would guess). But it does get hot in my case since I have 2 8800GT's folding away so they throw a bit of heat.

I live in the tropics and it is summer, at the moment it is 34°C in my study. I think it is about time to put the A/C on. It gets very hot when I have everything on in here. My idle temps are over 40°C at the moment.

Well here is another reference point. I wanted to see how low I could go on Vcore and get 3GHz. I figure I don't really need the 3.6GHz since this thing is just a server and given that it folds 24/7 lower temps (for longevity) are more desirable than a few hundred PPD.

So here is what I get with my Vcore set to 1.3V in the BIOS. Under load CPUZ is reading 1.288V and my hottest core is 52C. This has been running a couple of hours so far but I would want to see it fold for a day or two before I declare stability. My VID is 1.2875 so this is pretty much achieving 3GHz on VID setting. Sound about right?

Here is another combination that might be the right mix between good temps and reasonable performance. 3.2GHz @ 1.35V (BIOS) and 1.336V (Load). 53C on worst core while folding. System (Internal case) temp is 35C for reference. Room temp is probably 18-20C. Seems stable so far.
