Can you tell I have a headache right now?
Yup, there are no laws in place preventing minors from buying rated M games and R movies. California tried to pass a law back in 2005 for this, but it was found unconstitutional by an appeals court just recently. Gamestop and other stores just do it so they don't get stupid parents on their case because they weren't responsible enough to know what their child is doing. By law, they can't force you to prove your age, but they also aren't obligated to sell you anything either. You want their merchandise you have to play by their game.

i never get carded. last time i got carded was like 2 months after i turned 21...i was at a restaurant and i ordered a drink. everytime i have gone to the store to buy alcohol...never carded...out of all the times i've gone to numerous bars...i was only carded once...and that was like right after i turned 21. out of all of the "bad" games i buy..never carded.

which i find pretty funny considering i look younger than i really am.

I just think it depends on who manages their store. If that guys boss was a huge b***h that explains why he had to stay on the phone with him and why he carded you (the boss's rule).

Because it is a private establishment, they have the right to set whatever requirements they desire. The only exception is if the requirements are discriminating against someone. Because of the ESRB "rating" no lawmaker I know of would say they are discriminating based on age.

I still get carded when buying games in retail stores. I guess they want to cover themselves. I got tired of buying a young friend "m" rated games, so I showed him steam. He's never looked back.
