P5N-D Q9550 Overclocking troubles

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
I just built my system but have no idea how to overclock. I dont know terms really so the guides havent been a lot of help.

was wondering if you experts could give me some steps to get this started.

In my bios the settings ive found are:

NB PCIE Frequency (set from 100-131)

VCore Voltage
Ht Voltage
NB chipset Voltage
SB Chipset Voltage

FSB - Memory Clock Mode (Auto - Linked or Unlinked)

Auto = no settings

Linked =
FSB Memory Ratio (Auto - 1:1 5:4 3:2 or Sync Mode)
FSB (QDR) (533-3000)

Unlinked =
533-3000
Mem (DDR) (400-2600)

So I guess these are the only settings or should there be something I missed?

if not what do you suggest I set to what? This is my 24/7 pc built for gaming/surfing the web and everyday things as well. id like to get the highest possible speed thats safe.

Any direction would be great!!

Whoops I guess Ill list all my hardware

this has it all

THANKS!!

Lock the PCI-e frequency at 100.

Please fill in the rest of your system specs in your signature. Here:

You can post here on this thread: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...overclock.html

They have several folks with Q9x00. They may be able to help out.

One thing about P5N-D is, it does not have GTL reference voltage controls. This is the key to higher quad overclocks. You're probably looking at around 3.6ghz stable overclocks.

Seems like replies are coming slower in that thread. I wanted to try to start the OC process today. Anyway someone can help me out here?

Oh by the way. One thing I dont get is my bus is 333.3 stock but I see people saying their bus is like 1600 OC

I thought the speed was bus x multiplier which is fixed at 8.5
Wouldnt that be like 1600 x 8.5 = 13.6ghz? Is this like all 4 cores combined? So is it really 400?

Im still very confused on this process

Nvidia boards do not use the reference clock to overclock. They use "QDR" 1333mhz= 4*333. Just increase your QDR to overclock.

@1400, your CPU would be 2.9ghz (350 * 8.5)
@1500, your CPU would be 3.1ghz (375 * 8.5)
@1600, your CPU would be 3.4ghz (400 * 8.5)
ETC.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but how do you adjust voltages to match the increased QDR?
