eVGA has a really good RMA systemn, and they usually dont ask a lot of questions. That might be the best.

yea, newegg does well with RMA, but i dont want to be without a computer for 10 days. the 9800GT does well, but if i had to RMA it, i will be getting a 9800GTX or GTX+, but im worried about my PSU with those higher cards.

I think with your setup, you should be ok, as long as you do not try to go multi GPU. Your dual core cpu is not that power hungry compared to the quads. That is my humble opinion.

Edit:
Power requirement off eVGA site:

SINGLE GPU
Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp

Try downclocking your card a little bit on the core and shaders and play for a little while. Might give you some insight on wether it is your card or your PSU

im thinking its the card or drivers. the rest of my system is fine and my psu has plenty of power. i will play for a bit later today and if it happens again i will install different drivers and see if it gets rid of the problem.

i purposely got my system for some power savings, hence the dual core CPU and the 9800GT.

i think its related to my clock speeds, but getting those kinds of errors at stock speeds?!?!?!? i tried OC'ing a few days after this all happened and its horrible. going from 600mhz to 700mhz core speed causes BAD errors and i have to reset it to stock.

card is defective? or just not very oc friendly?

i think im gonna get BIOS updates and get some info on the voltages across the GPU and see if i can get it more stable. i was expecting more from this card.

I would run at stock speed, do a fresh driver install of latest whql drivers (182.06 is what I'm using) using driver cleaner/sweeper in safe mode and see if it still does it. Your PSU is definitely on the border, don't count it out yet.

downclock the core to 550, and keep shaders linked. Back the memory up about 100.

If the problem stops, it's probably a bad card. If it doesn't, probably the card or the PSU.

Try another card in the slot with similar power requirements, if you have one, or suck it up and RMA.
