I am trying to figure out if XMP automaticlly sets the memory to the rated specs or if it Will (like my amd) start off at low default settings, allowing you to make any changes to speed and timings as well as Voltage.
reason why i ask is because I have a feww 4 x 1 set of DDR3 that is XMP at 1600mhz 1.8v 7-7-7-20, the voltage is too high for X58
I just need to know if I turn this computer on with that ram, that it wont automattically set it to 1.8v and kill my computer =/
when i first booted the ram was running at 1066mhz , i had change it myself to 1333mhz if the ram is not listed in supported ram for mobos i doubt it will run properly ,I did a bit of reading and some guy added 1.9v rated ram (crazy) and the pc went but he had a lot of issues could not install programs, If u up the voltage on the ram it has to be fine tuned and within 0.5 of the quickpath voltages thats just what i have been reading dont quote me on that and its not a reliable source ( core i7 my first pc build im a noob lol ) its just not worth it and it wont run in tri channel i understand that you would want to use that ram and it probably cost you a lot of money
for ddr3 dual channel ram 1600mhz i would be trying too.I would would wait for a better answer someone more experienced but nobody has had much experience with the core i7 . But we all OC our cpus so they are not running in spec so why not ram lol. so basicly i have no answer lol ( sry )
