If you take a game like GTA4, it looks horrible by default. You will probably see two of Nico most of the time. That is because there is too much convergence. He is popping out of the screen too far. If you decrease the convergence so that the left and right image of Nico become one or "converge" then he will look flat on the screen. Anything that comes between him and the screen will pop out and anything further away will go deeper into the screen. That is how I like to play GTA4.

Here is a quick diagram. Pretend that one line is the right image and the other is the left image. The orange line is your screen. Everything that is crossed one way will look like it is popping out and everything that crosses the other way will look like it is receding into the screen. All that depth does is move those two lines further away from each other.

In a game like Titan Quest I like to set the convergence so that when I take off the glasses that the ground appears as one image. It makes everything look like its popping out of the screen. It makes it so that you won't see two cursors.

Once you play around with convergence a bit you'll have a better understanding. It really does work wonders for a lot of games.
Thanks bud, I get ya
I'll have a play

Convergence is a must in some games, however I've had issues with convergence in some games where it just doesn't change the convergence, don't know if it's a game issue or a driver support issue for the game.

Yeah, Nvidia locks the convergence in some games. I hear that its most common with 3d vision ready titles for some reason.

Whats the deal with black ops? I'm getting 20 fps half the time and my GPU use is only around 50%. BC2 is fine, pegging my card at full load all the time. Fps still sucks but that's a given. SLI appears to be a must for 3D.

Got my 3D Vision kit with my 2nd Lightning a few weeks ago but just hooked it up today. Amazing is all I can say. Up to this point I've played console games in 3D on my Samsung D8000 and the experience was sub par. Sub HD, often times <30fps. Just a horrible experience.

But this? This is crazy. And beautiful. So far I've tried The Witcher 2 and Crysis 2. C2 looks good in 3D, but TW2 blew my mind. In its original state TW2 is one of the best looking games, but in 3D it takes it to a whole nother level. Simply jaw dropping. I am in love. I get no cross talk on my Asus monitor and my FPS has almost always stayed at 60fps. So good. This is why I built the machine I did .

Any word on Rage working in 3D? It's supposedly supported and says it on Nvidia's site, but can't get it to activate in game.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it mate! The top of my head blew off too when I first played TW2 in 3D - it's freakin' fantastic!

Rage doesn't activate for me either dude - don't think it's supported just yet.

3D Vision only supports Direct X. RAGE is OpenGL. That's why it doesn't work, guys.

Just Cause 2 = WOW! Tried BO, BC2, AC2, SC2, Burnout, L4D2, and Crysis 2 and while it was cool I was irked by the horrendous frame rates, text not being rendered properly, etc. I decided to try JC2 since I had bought it on Steam when it was on sale ages ago and I noticed it was a "3D Vision Ready" game (though clearly that's a meaningless rating based on Black Ops...). Anyway, I was absolutely blown away from the second my character jumped out of the helicopter. This is the real deal. I need to pick up Metro 2033 and see how that goes.

Oh and now I need another GTX 570. Dammit Nvidia! Already sucked me into spending $420 to check out 3D and now I need to spend another $300+ to complete the experience.

Side note: How the hell is THG pulling 38 fps at 3x the resolution I run with 2x the GPU power? I see as low as 15-20 fps at times.

If you can I'd get another card. Playing at 60fps with all the effects and maxed out is amazing, and smooth. That's one thing that stuck out to me as well was how smooth it was. Probably the 120hz doing work.

Hello guys, I've been away from PC gaming for the past few months (playing some PS3 titles) and just got back into it again since I got Portal 2.
First of all, what a great game! It's been a great experience so far even though I've only played around an hour or so.
So now that I am back in the 3D business, there is something that I've always wondered...
I seem to always get carried away constantly tweaking the depth and convergence settings for any game that I play, I get carried away with it so much that I don't actually get to play the game! It must be a sickness or something but I simply want to get the out-most best 3D experience, you know.
Is there such a thing as a default 3D profile for games in which it includes the recommended depth/convergence settings? Then at least I can ballpark what I should be expecting, and if I don't like it, I can tweak by a bit.
Unless I am mistaken, it is not possible to dynamically have the depth change per game or anything like that right? From what I understand;
Depth = Global
Convergence = Per Game
Is that correct?

Thanks a bunch guys!

ps: For Portal 2 (it is my first FPS 3D game experience, played Portal 1 before my 3D setup) is it ideal to keep the convergence at the point of the gun, or at the base?
