[Official] Nvidia 3d Vision + 3d Surround Club - Page 19

Please add me to the list, got the 3D Vision kit, Acer GD245HQ, and running on a GTX 480.

My only complaint is that the 3D crosshair has a major performance hit in TF2.

I have yet to test this but I'm sure it works because I've seen driver updates where they fixed issues with "non-official" monitors working with 3d vision.

@ Sean, I'm not sure how the DLP tv's work so I don't know how your tv runs @ 60hz and still can use 3d.
Did you use that CRT with 3D vision?

You see alot of these TV manufacturers put the 120Hz label on thier TV sets cause they figured out a way to take a 60Hz signal and amplify it to 120Hz for a smoother and crisper picture. If it isn't on Nvidia's TV/Monitor support list I wouldn't trust it cause you would need the driver to be compatible also.

Take Dsplifff's setup for instance. Me and him are friends IRL and he saw my 3D setup and just had to have one of his own. I went to Nvidia's site and printed out the TV/monitor support list, then him and I took a ride to a local CompUSA where they had a WD-60C9 which is from Mitsubishi and said 120Hz right on the box. We then grab the glasses and GFX card and get everything back to his house to get it all set up. Long story short after getting it all set up, I made it a point to check the PC's refresh rate on his DLP. Sure enough it was set at 60Hz and there was no other options to make it 120Hz...

My DLP is a 60Hz model and works, it's still on NV's support list!!!

Only trust what's on NV's site and support list. You don't want to buy a $400-$900 display and then be pissed it doesn't work...

@Kush in windows does your monitors refresh rate say 120Hz or does it still say 60Hz???

Sean I mentioned that I didn't test it with my old CRT because that monitor died a few years ago. And yes in windows it used to say 1600x1200@120hz when using that CRT.

Also, Sean I agree with you that I wouldn't buy a monitor thats not officially supported because like you said it would suck to buy 400-900$ monitor/tv and then not have it work.

And Also, I'm aware of DLP tv's that are not "true" 120hz by pulling those kind of tricks. Most of the DLP tv's out on the market are like that or those OLED tv's that have 240hz, which is also a false claim and uses the same techniques to "produce" those kind of refresh rates.

Are you guys absolutely certain that the Mitsu DLPs cannot render a 120Hz signal? Did you use a dual-link DVI cable? Single-link DVI cannot support the 120Hz signal, and neither can HDMI. If you're not sure whether you have a single- or dual-link cable, look at the connector pinouts in this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

The DLP chip uses the wobulation method to render half of the picture at a time (requiring half the number of mirror elements on the chip), but this does not actually reduce the max refresh rate from 120Hz.

Technically yes, but practically you won't. The refresh rate of your monitor is to low to enjoy it without torturing your eyes and brains, sorry

Your GTX 470 is capable though

Actually, I think I was wrong about needing a dual-link DVI connection to the TV. HDMI and single-link DVI can support 1080p at 120Hz. Nvidia says a dual-link DVI cable is required for use with a 120Hz LCD monitor, but I'm not sure why it would be necessary since a single-link DVI can handle the bandwidth.

Anyways, I looked at the specs for the current Mitsubishi 65738, and it clearly states that it only supports 24Hz, 30Hz, and 60Hz at 1080p. So there you go. Their documentation explains that their DLPs only support side-by-side stereo formats, which obviously halves resolution. Pretty lame.

That will work, I also tried that a while ago. It's a nice experience, but after a while you get tired of the strange colors. Also your eyes have to adjust after putting the glasses of.
