Great, and congrats! Feel free to share more information about this monitor and games/movies, would love to hear about it!
(Could you share more pics of your setup with the VG278H in it? smile.gif

I don't see any backlight bleeding.

Here are some reviews I read about the monitor as well.

Hardware Heaven - NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 featuring the ASUS VG278H Screen - Feb 10, 2012.

Hot Hardware - NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 and The Asus VG278H LCD Review - Oct 14, 2011

I came from the Alienware AW2310 OptX monitor and though it's a great monitor I wanted to upgrade to larger screen for 3D movies and the improvement with Lightboost. Handing the AW2310 down to the kids as I slowly build a second rig to get them off my baby.

It was a hard decision between this and the ACER HN274H. Both have very comparable specs.

3D Blog - Review of the 27″ Acer HN274H 3D Vision-ready LCD Monitor - Feb 1, 2011

If you do go with the ACER make sure it's the newer version with Lightboost. The first made were not Nvidia 2 monitors.

The updated version of the 27-inch Acer HN274H 3D monitor with the new 3D Vision 2 and support for 3D Lightboost technology is here as apparently Acer is already releasing the monitor on some markets and I just got a review sample. The new monitor looks exactly the same as the old version on the outside, even the model name on the front is printed as HN274H…

290

Looking at the back of the display reveals more interesting facts. Instead of Acer HN274HB the model name apparently remains HN274H, but with a slight difference in the version of the model only. So instead of HN274H bmiiid as the old model, the new model is labeled HN274H Bbmiiid with a part number ET.HH4HE.B04. The fact that the model number remains as HN274H and not HN274HB and the difference is in the version number only might be a bit confusing for a lot of people and it is not impossible that somebody can get the old model instead of the new one. So be careful when looking for the new version with 3D Vision 2 and 3D Lightboost support and wait for a review of the monitor very soon.

I hope I do not see the Halo se7en was talking about and will update this thread should that be the case. It was not an easy decision between the two. Not enough reviews from the ACER version to make me feel at ease. ASUS has always had strong qaulity monitors. The warranty makes me feel at ease should any problems turn up.

Here is a video in German on the Acer HN274H. Though I didn't understand anything it does show a little bit of the monitor off. Again very little reviews on it.

Good luck with your homework. That pic was from my iPhone. When I get time I will upload some final shots on my bio rig builder. biggrin.gif

Hopefully the current batch of them are free from this defect, or that they will at least do what some people have stated (that it evens out and returns to normal in a week or so.
Good luck with the new monitor, just wish they had been in stock when I was ordering parts.

I've heard all the bad news about this monitor as well (and the good news), but I noticed they haven't been in stock for about a month or two, I figured they were doing some quality control to fix all the issues people were having. At least that is what I'm hoping for. You mentioned that it goes away and returns to normal in a week or so? That's something I haven't heard, if that is the case that is good, so that the problems people were experiencing in some cases weren't permanent?

I'm caught between this and a 24" XL2420TX but I'm thinking the 27" would be a more noticible upgrade for me as I'm coming from a 22" 16:10 which is just slightly smaller than a 24" 16:9.

But overall I hope this monitor turns out well. It's good to see the good review turn in. smile.gif

I've got a question about the Asus VG278H and the ability to play 3D Movies... I've heard people say they wish certain monitors supported SBS, but most movies I see are SBS, will any 3D Blu-Ray Disc be able to be viewed on an NVIDIA 3D Vision Monitor? I have a 560 Ti 448 and I just want to be sure I'm aware of the limitations before purchasing the Asus VG278H. Is there a limited 3D format that certain types of monitors support or should I be able to play almost anything out there? Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure what SBS is? Any 3D blu-ray movie can be played on Nvidia 3D Vision?

As for you GTX 560Ti......GPU performance does not effect the ability to watch 3D Vision. Your 560Ti renders watching 3D as the same performance as my GTX 580.

As for gaming, that's a new ball game. 3D gaming cuts FPS by about 40%. So if your getting 60 FPS in a game in 2D expect about a 35 FPS in 3D. The minimum 'playable' FPS in 3D to get by is 30 FPS.

Side by side, its one of the more common formats for 3d movies.

I know that Nvidia 3d video player does support side by side as well as quite a few other formats. I'm just not too sure on how blu ray players and codecs work.

Hey Guys,

I just ordered my Asus VG278H from Amazon.

I've been watching them daily as the shipping estimates went from: Out of stock > 2-4 Weeks > 1-2 Weeks > Only 10 left > and now currently only 8 left at time of writing.

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG278H-27-Inch-1080p-Monitor/dp/B0063BM5NK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329514127&sr=8-1

I went with Amazon because of their superior return policy.

The other retailers are having all sales are final policy and that means you have to a.) Keep the monitor b.) Work issues through Asus.

I'm sure Asus is great, but the only thing is the problem I had on one of my motherboards and when I called in regarding the VG278H return policy is that they will only replace items with a working refurbished quality monitor. No matter how new the item is. I had my motherboard the day it arrived it was said to be bad by Asus tech support and they kindly offered to exchange it however it would be for a refurbished motherboard even though it was less than one day old brand new.

So I feel good knowing that Amazon can handle any return or exchange (timely without question) in the case I get a VG278H that may be experiencing the same problems the initial users were having. I'll keep anyone updated if interested on the monitor. Estimated delivery is February 23rd, 2012.

Are we allowed to list prices here? I'd like to mention the price if it is okay. It was $660 shipped.

Looking forward to my first 1080p monitor, my first 120Hz Monitor, my first 27" Monitor, and my first 3D Vision system. thumb.gif

Thanks!

Thanks!

Sure is okay to mention the price. smile.gif I paid 708.00 after shipping total. So you got a bit of break. I went Newegg direct, received within 5 days of order including the weekend.

Once you go 120Hz you won't be able to step back down to 60Hz anymore than you can go back to a CRT. wink.gif

Just wanted to give anyone a heads up that is still on the 775 platform with a 400 series or better gpu... UPGRADE NOW!

I just went from my q6600 @ 3.9ghz to a 2600k @ 5.0ghz and it literally doubled my fps across the board with my gtx 480. Obviously the 2600k is clocked faster but even at stock 3.8ghz it's no comparison.

In bf3 on a 64man server I would get a minimum of ~14-20fps depending on the area/map. Now I don't get less then 45 fps ANYWHERE with averages of 70+.

So anyone considering upgrading from the 775 platform, it's a huge difference as far as gaming is concerned. Not only that but you get sata3 as well thumb.gif
