BF3 3d is pretty good. I myself only play only online multiplayer on BF3 so i prefer 5760x1080 @ 120hz for the competitive edge. Fast twitch games where you have to turn very quickly on the drop of a dime dont work to well to me for 3d. Campaign in 3d was 1000x better, but im stuck on multiplayer right now. Now Max Payne 3's campaign blew me away in 3d surround, it has the ability to adjust 3d convergence. Increased 3d convergence makes my monitors look 20ft deep! Crazy! MP3 in 2d surround just looks flat now and i refuse to experience it like that.
Like I said before 3d surround takes monstrous power to run. Here is the benchmarks for 680 SLI in BF3 @ 5760x1080 in 2d. Add 10-15% performance if you overclock your 680s http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-680-sli-overclock-surround,3162-5.html
As you can see BF3 Ultra presets 5760x1080 2d runs at @ 56fps average. Now 3d has to display each frame twice so your framerate is roughly cut in half. So you are looking at 5760x1080 in 3d (3d surround) at @ 28 FPS average. And thats average, low FPS being even worse. And this is campaign. BF3 online is even more taxing on the system to run.
Now decreasing MSAA will improve famerate substantially. This is one of the main reason i went with the 2gb cards instead of the 4gb. Even 680 4gb 4-way SLI in not enough to run BF3 online at a constant 120fps in 2d surround or a constant 60fps in 3d surround with 4xMSAA , so AA will need to be turned down to increase framerate at the level you are happy with. But thats just me, I am very sensitive to framerate drops.
