Ok so you are talking about in-game FOV. Well the games I have played don't account for your FOV change for triple screens. But basically your FOV is multiplied by 3 with 3 1080p monitors in landscape. Here is a vid of my 3 VG278Hs a while ago when I had only one GTX 680. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta5lroOZAmA

OK let me try to explain this better, I will talk generally rather than game specific. The optimum FOV is 180, to give maximum direct and peripheral vision. Your game avatar is centralized along a horizontal line, with an imaginary perpendicular central vertical line. The games default FOV is 60 deg, so with a single screen it displays it as a 60 deg segment. Split in two with 30 degrees either side of the perpendicular central vertical line, thus giving the player a 60 FOV, at a resolution of 1920x1080.

Now when go to a triple monitor set-up in landscape mode, we are adding more horizontal screen width and resolution, but we maintain the vertical res of 1080. We triple the horizontal res to 5760, ergo adding more horizontal width to the FOV. The game recognizes this and then re-configures the displayed image by adding in two extra 60 deg segments, either side of our initial central 60deg segment. Resulting in a total FOV of 180 degrees, thus giving us the maximum peripheral vision. With the games avatar & HUD etc, all contained in the central screen. Hypothetically speaking of course.

However when we go to a triple monitor set-up in portrait mode, we are adding more height and width, plus more vertical and horizontal resolution. So how does the game interpret the new resolution of 3240x1920? Is it by the game detecting this new setting and obviously adds height to the vertical image above and below the central point? However, is it the same as the above landscape configuration horizontally? By adding two segments either side of our initial central segment? Or does it just stretch the horizontal 60 deg FOV across all three screens?

Ie. Is the center segment contained just in the center screen, or does it stretch it across all three screens? From images and video's I have seen of a portrait set-up, it looks like the displayed image is stretched across all 3 screens. So does this mean that the default 60 deg FOV is maintained, but the displayed image is stretched across all three screens? With the new resolution of 3240x1920 just adding extra screen surface area? Or does it totally reconfigure the displayed image in-line with the new higher res of 3240x1920? By adding in a segment either side of our original center one, to give more peripheral vision?

Sorry for the detailed analysis, I am just trying to understand how portrait works and how it differs from a landscape set-up. Thanks again in advance!!! wink.gif

I haven't really seen this game mentioned but Zombie Driver HD works really well in 3d. I only played it for a bit but everything rendered fine from what I saw.

Not sure where you were going with your textbook definition of surround. But to answer your question about portrait: If a game supports the portrait resolution correctly then the vertical FOV should not be stretched, but will actually show you additional gaming environment. Not all games support this correctly. There are 3rd party software like Widescreenfixer that fixes these compatibility issues. If you really want to know the exact vertical & horizontal FOV then look at a FOV calculator HERE.

Just checked out the gameplay on youtube. Looks pretty cool. Ill keep an eye for a sale on it and ill pick it up. Thanks for the tip. +Rep.

Also I just tried the new Pinball FX2 in 3d Surround. Steam has the demo version for free. I never would have thought that Pinball would work good in 3d, but holy crap im impressed. Played the Star Wars tables and Avengers. Avengers had to be one of the best in 3d. The actual pinball table is actually the Avenger's hovercraft, flying above a city, with the city buildings far down below with much depth. Really really cool, you guys must check it out(free).
**Side note** The 3d convergence by default is way way off. Easily fixed with F5 & F6 (just line up the bottom launcher handle without glasses when on table). Some menus and cut scenes where incorrect also.

Hello guys, I am planning to buy nvidia 3d vision 2 glasses to pair with my ASUS VG248QE and GTX 680 SC Signature 2. If I am going to play Battlefield 3, how many FPS am I gonna get?

Thanks! biggrin.gif

AAAHHHH FOV calculator! I knew there was a tool or something which would give the answers. I just didn't have the correct search parameters was all. So thanks for providing that link. I have just one last question though. Is the correct resolution for a triple monitor set-up in portrait mode 3240x1920? Or is it 3240x5760?

As the latter seems to provide a truer image of what the actual result will be, when using that FOV calculator tool.

BF3 engine runs 3d at about half the rate of 2d, but 1st Person shooters are not the best games for 3d IMO. 3rd person aspect games really take advantage of stereoscopic 3d much better.

If you have 1920x1080 monitors your native resolution will be 3240x1920. You can add bezel compensation or run a non-native resolution that would change this.

Ya i figured out that the pinball shooting lever was time controlled (meaning if your hold it too long the ball wont launch). After that the controls were pretty easy with both shift buttons on each side of the keyboard controls the corresponding paddle.
