do you need two Graphics cards to Use 3D? i know you need two for 3D surround, but how about 3D with one monitor?

No, you don't. You can run 3D with a single card on one monitor.

Wow, exactly the same score as mine - talk about unlocked 465s - they rule! It looks like it's me who needs to upgrade I've been fighting the urge of getting 580, keep telling myself "need to wait for Kepler" LOL

assuming all goes according to plan i'll be joining this club soon, i plan on ordering my gpu and 3d kit 12/31.

i didn't see this thread until after i had already made a new thread for my question but this seems like it might have been a better place for it.

i'll paraphrase it here: how much of a performance impact does enabling 3d have? i'm trying to decide between a gtx 570 and a gtx 580, leaning towards the 580.

full rundown here

Roughly 50% hit since its basically needs to render everything twice, one for each eye.

Just cause 2 3D off:

Just read your original post: I guess it depends on how much eye candy you are willing to give up to get the framerates you're comfortable with. 580 roughly is as fast as my 2 GTX 460s. As you can see, I already can't run 3 games maxed out in 3D. I'd say go with 580, in this case its premium well worth it.

What are the other two games you can't max? I'm really interested in 3D but the price of admission seems kind of high, and I'll probably want a second GPU on top of that afterwards...

It's Metro and BFBC2. Here is quick rundown on performance I'm getting so far in 3D with my setup.
I have 2 480's OC'd and I have to play metro with AA at medium spec, and as for BBC2 it just doesn't use enough GPU to max it out.
