i meant this card actually

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...x%20460%202win

it's pointless to sli my gtx 460 since it's only got 1gb of vram

and i don't see any gtx 500 series with more than 1.5gb of vram...so i dunno, kinda leaning towards the gtx 460 2 win

Oh, my bad. I didn't look up the 2win card, I though the only difference was the higher VRAM since that's all you mentioned. But the card you linked to, it's 2 460s, go for it! Also, unless you're going Surround/HD+ resolutions, 1.5GB is good enough.

doesn't 3d gaming use up a lot more VRAM though?

Usually, more VRAM is required for high resolutions because more pixels have to be drawn, which doesn't happen 3D. I mean, yes, a bit more is used, but not enough to make a performance impact. Its the core/shader clock that counts.

Somone should confirm this though.

I'd say just SLI your 460: I ran 3D with GTX 460 1GB SLI, and didn't notice any extra usage in VRAM in 3D vs 2D. Here, my personal comparison of VRAM usage in Metro 2033. 1GB might be not enough if you up texture quality or antialiasing, but if you're worried that you will run out of VRAM just by turning on 3D - you won't.

Just bought a kit for $99.00 on eBay! Great price, I hope I'm going to love 3D!

Long time no post (in this thread at least)

News update

3DTV Play came out a little over a month ago. See the official website here. It allows 3D PC games to be played through 3D HDTV's (vs a 3D PC monitor). A lot of 3D HDTV's are supported (mine is), see here.

From what I can tell, the procedure is simple. Just install the 3DTV software on your PC, run the game. It uses your HDTV's 3D glasses (no need for the Nvidia 3D kit).

Pretty big CON though.... due to bandwidth limitations of hdmi, 3DTV Play can only do 3D at 720p at 60fps or 1080p at 24fps. 3D at 1080p and 60fps is just not possible over hdmi (its a limitation of current the hdmi standard). But hey, since its 3D at only 720p at least you won't need GTX 580's in SLI (one GTX 460 1gb or even GTX 260 should be good enough for most games).

Hopefully someone can give 3DTV Play a whirl and give a review. Unfortunately I can't because I have other, more important financial priorities in my life (saw-wee).

Thnx for replyes and sorry for late back-post.

Just wondering: which projector are U folks using for 3d?

Im just not sure how the optoma HD67N will perform since its a 720p res in 3D.

Other suggestions on that one?

What do you mean by how it would perform?

It would be easier on your gpu(s) by running in 720p, and there are no 1080p 3d projectors yet. So if by performance you mean in FPS, then it would perform better then what it would on your monitor.

As far as quality, I don't know, I've never used the projector so I cannot speak on that.
