If you're really keen, maybe we can work something out.

The P183 v3 is on sale for $100 after code and MIR from Newegg. Is there a significant drop in temps if I install a 120mm intake fan in the 5.25" bays?

So apparently, motherboards dislike having the wrong connector (USB) jammed into a 30VDC powered socket (firewire). No blame, just frustration. Anyway.

Does anyone know the spacing of the mounting holes for their P180/P183/P193 front port assemblies? I have a strong urge to replace the current ports on my Sonata Plus/Designer/Solo case and gain something actually useful (front ESATA). They appear pretty much identical in terms of layout, but if the mounts are different that will require a lot more gorilla glue.

My searching skills are not so great as I can't find a quick answer to whether an eatx board (specifically the ASUS Maximus ROG board) can fit in my p183 case. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm thinking it probably can't as it would block some of the cable management holes.

@bern43: The Crosshair V is 244mm wide, while the ROG IV is 269mm wide... So you need 25mm on the right side.

Here's a picture of the case with another 244mm-wide Asus board installed (credit to SPCR), and once resized so that the board is 244mm, a fairly accurate guess can be made as to where the ROG IV will sit:

So if it was just the PCB itself, it would probably fit with about 3mm of space left on the mounting plane. However, what I can't see in the photo is how far back the drive bays go - and whether they cover up the right side of it. To really check properly, you would need to strip everything out of your case, and then measure how much extra room you have when the Crosshair board is partially inserted, i.e. on an angle, before and just after the connectors slide into the backplate, as that's when there's the least space. Then figure out whether it would still fit with the extra 25mm sticking out.

There are also various other considerations:

-Make sure to check where the mounting holes are! Some other ASUS EATX boards reportedly use the standard ATX mounting locations, but if not you might need to rig something up (either tap new screw-holes in the backplane, or find some insulating material to stick under the edge of the board).
-If your PSU's ATX cable has braiding on it, you may need to slide it back or cut it off so that the wires can spread out (like in the photo) to fit in what's left of the management slot. You'll also want to pull the ATX power lead through and tape it somewhere before installing the board.

Thanks. + rep. I'm going to do some measuring tonight. I'll report back.

Edit: So it look like it will fit. If I take out the middle HD cage I can route cables through there. I also believe that the mounting holes match up. Next question. Anyone have any solutions for mounting an SSD in the bottom cage?

Shoot, I was going to ask if you'd mind taking some measurements of the front port module while you were at it (see post #684 above), and by the time I finished replying I'd forgotten. LOL.

Glad it will fit though; not having to replace a case when you've got one that does what it does just fine is always a bonus. As for SSDs, have you purchased them already? The only "recent" ones I have are the cheap Intel X25-V's, and they actually come with a steel 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. My older OCZ branded Samsung drive didn't have one, and I'm not really aware if there are others that include them, but that's one way to go about it.

If you need an aftermarket part, the one I'm using is a Scythe Bay Rafter. Mine is an older model that holds 3 X 2.5" in a 5.25" bay, but the current ones fit 2 X 2.5" drives in one 3.5" bay. They're less than $10, and being all black they shouldn't clash with any color themes you have going. There are similar ones from lots of other mfg's, but I've found these to be well-made and easily moddable (you'll want to add staggered mounting holes if you want to use 90-degree connectors).

Mushbert. I'll take that measurement for you later tonight.
