OK First off, if you have one DO NOT I repeat! DO NOT take it apart and use Arctic Silver 5 on the TEC. When I did that I blew out my display module. Luckily I had another one but I didn't figure out what the problem was and then I blew out the second one.
So I went to where I bought it 20 days ago and replace the whole thing for a new one and came back home a fixed the other one with some wire and solder. So now I have 2 that works again.
I took the new cooler and lapped that and I already had lapped my Q9400 and kept the same paste on the TEC. LOL...I also bought a Zalman green LED 92mm fan for it and connected the wire straight to a MOBO head, that makes it run at 2800RPM all the time. Then I hooked the TEC to a straight 12v and now my Temps are sitting at 21c. When I was testing it out without a CPU on it the temps went down to 17C. I also bought A/C MX-2 paiste because AS5 has caused me way to much of a problem.
I guess the AS5 was touching the - and the + on the TEC and thats what made both my displays blow out. You could see inside the box of the display where it had some green coating on some of the board and now there wasn't anything going from a sensor to another. There was just enough metal on the board where I could solder a wire to one part of the board to another part of the board.
So by doing what I did my temps dropped 3-4C. Now I am going to drop my CPU down to stock volts and run it at 2.66 to see if my temps drop anymore. I think it would a little but I will post back in a little while. Thanks for reading!!
Well that is about the only way you could improve that chiller and it seems to be working well...great. Now you see how the manufacturer was hampered somewhat by having to restrict themselves to molex connection. Theoretically if you can remove the TEC, you could exchange it for a slightly more powerful one but you will have to keep an eye on the current draw bigger TEC's take hugh jumps in current draw. There isn't much point in getting a hugh TEC because most of the heat will be dealt with by the heatpipes prior to it getting to the TEC and also if you go up a couple of sizes from where you are you will need to water cool the hotside, air cooling wont be sufficient. Anything bigger than 100w Qmax will need water cooling to work properly.
