Xigmatek S1283 or Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer

Hey Guys,

I have to choose one between the two to cool my 9850BE in CM690. Which one would you choose? and why?

The only major difference between the two: Xiggy can only blow out to the top exhaust while the SCCF can blow out to the rear exhaust. I have 2x120mm fan at the top exhaust and 1x120mm fan at the rear exhaust.

Cheers.

HDT-S1283 for sure. Get a Xigmatek Crossbow with it though. The Core Contact Freezer has a horrible mount which doesn't provide much pressure at all and can't be replaced.

I have installed S1283 before and it was a breeze. No cuts no bloods. I am expecting that installing the SCCF will be difficult just cuz the of the way tight spacing between the fins and the latch.

Based on its orientation, S1283 could potentially blocked the first ram slot if you have ram with raised heatsink. The SCCF will not fit if you have a tall NB cooler.

Did you just answer your own thread?

Xiggy is great, just get some AS5 or MX-2 thermal paste. I have the Xiggy blowing out the back of my case, is it just that your case is to short? Either way, top or back, it should work equally well.

s1283 gets my vote.

The CCF has a horrible mounting system, you'll spend atleast 2 hours trying to put it on your motherboard without snapping it in half. I had to bend my motherboard roughly 40 degrees before the heatsink would lock into place. It's extremely hard to remove the heatsink as well. I would just go with the s1283.

Thanks! I figured the s1283 has a much better mounting system than the CCF. I'll go with the s1283 then! Thanks guys!

I had absolutely no problems mounting my CCF. It is a bit of a pain to take it off for reseating, but that entire process only took me 25 minutes....and that include the removal of the motherboard.
