honestly dual channel ddr3 isn't future proof. when you upgrade to an i7 rig, it will use tri-channel so dual channel won't be that great.

just get the ep45-ud3p and some nice ddr2, then use the extra $$ saved to buy maybe a couple 640gb hdds in raid 0.

I agree with noah. DDR3 is not future proof unless you're getting 6 gigs to run in Tri-channel. Considering how much cheaper DDR3 is going to get in the future, it would actually be a bad decision to buy it now for more than you would later. For example: when DDR was standard and DDR2 was new, it used to cost about $200 for 2 gigs of ballistix.
Now look how cheap it is. At this point, you will not notice any [significant] difference between DDR3 and DDR2, especially if you're going to OVERCLOCK the DDR2 1100+.

Well, it's all very sound advice. Currently looking into DDR2 @ 1066 MHz, can anyone please find a comparison/chart of DDR2 @ 1066 vs DDR3 @ 1600 benched on games (seeing as I will mostly be gaming).

From what you guys have said, am I to understand the performance gain with DDR3 with a Q9650 as opposed to DDR2 with the same CPU will be marginal?

Going the Q9650 after all hey? Good move imo; trying to move house and put my rig together is taking too much damned time...

Good choice on the board; updated from the DDR2 model. Have to agree with the general consensus regarding DDR3, but I can see it may be an overall improvement to an already awesome OC'er - however unnecessary

Anyway, there's always a slightly revised Stewie quote,

"Whatever helps me sleep at night, b
****!"

LOL! Actually, a Stewie quote would be great, "Life is like a box of active hand grenades!!" or similar. Alright, when I get back from work I'll have a look around for some DDR2 rather than DDR3. Unless you guys want to help of course, I'm shopping at Centrecom and I'm aiming at 4GB of 1066 - perhaps corsair?
