The Truth about Temperatures and Voltages - Page 17

Increased watts = increased heat. Imagine space heaters, their output is in watts, not degrees. Wattage cold vs wattage hot doesn't change, still wattage, cold or ho5t is the ability of a sink to draw that heat away. Whenever they say max power in watts that is a figure that can be obtained by figuring out Amps and volts. And really that is number that has many variables my Q6600 says max 130 watt, but I have ran it at 1.5volts at what I beleive is 100Amp (still working on figuring out the Amps as you can prolly tell) which is 150 watts. So it can take more but the cooling better be good.

Which is one of the reasons why it doesn't make sense to theorize that the temperature affects the wattage.

And by the way: if it were 100A, then how could a power supply provide the power when it only has 40A on the +12V? 40A is 480W. The formula is Amperage x 12 = watts. Or, Watts ÷ 12 = amps.

Where did I ever theorize that temperature affects wattage? Wattage is what increases temp, temp is a biproduct of wattage, more power=higher wattage = higher temps. If I said temperature increases watts I made a big mistake, but don;t think I have. On to the rest...

+12 rail at 18v drops down to 1.xv @ 100 (theoretical) Amps. Just like your wall plug goes from 115v at maybe 2-3Amp and gets split to the +12 at 18Amp along with the other rails.
As it comes from wall the high voltage at lower amps goes to transformer and gets lower voltage at higher amps. Basic electronics. The only thing that stays constant at both sides is watts. Watts in is watts out.

110 @ 5 Amps = 550 watts
Antec TP2 550 watt PSU
3.3v 32Amp 105.6 watt
5v 40Amp 200 watt
12v 19Amp 228 watt
12v 19Amp 228 watt
5v 2Amp 10 watt
771.6watt
70% efficiaency
540.12 rated PSU

the CPU voltage down in the 1.X range has to come from somewhere. And its the +12.
Those +12's are rails, they lead to different connectors and can be +12 for vid or dropped to 1.X at higher Amp for CPU/MB. The only thing that uses raw +12 on machine is Drive spin up, Fans and Video. One of those +12's can be switched to 1.5v @152Amp if need be. That is what powers the CPU.

Easy wat/Amp/V converter here.

does that help?

I didn't say you did. I was just saying that the theory probably isn't correct, and I know somebody in this thread theorized it. However, it doesn't matter so I'm not going to look through the thread and find out who it was.

But then you also have the factor that he's monitoring total system power. If his other components temperatures change then their power usage will also change making the test even more inaccurate.
I would think say 40C difference in temperatures might show something and even then without it not being different OCs (with the same voltage on every other setting) should show a big enough difference between hot and cold or else the temps wouldn't show enough of a difference in overclocks. If it can't show a distinct difference at the same setting with different temps, then we can't expect it to show a match at lower settings with the same temps that we had when we turned off the fan.

Yes, but remember that at 1.45v you may start to really increase your temps and that can cause more instability. As long as temps are fine and you are completely stable, 1.45v is fine.
