Help... rebuilt PC not firing up - Page 4

Make sure you have the RAM voltage set to 1.9v, and just for now leave all the timings on auto. Dont worry about 1 or 2 T, as the more important thing is to get the system functional before you go fiddling with stuff.

Also, on MOST motherboards the RAM should be installed in the number 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 DIMMs (slots). Check your motherboard manual to be certain.

Nice try. For his board its 1 & 3 for channel 0 then 2 & 4 for channel 1. (see attached). Im sure you can run it in DIMMs 1&2 but it'll only run in single channel not dual.

You should take it out of your case and set it up on cardboard and then try to fire it up to make sure your mobo isnt touching the case at all this happened to me on one of my builds...

sorry I looked at the google cached version since I couldn't get it to work like normal so no pics.

Edit: On second thought I'm still right I looked at it again and I'm still correct they even recommend putting your 2 stick in slots 1 and 2

The CPU power plug is connected, the main connector plug is clipped in properly but I'm not using the addition four pin along side it, just the seperate four pin 12v ATX plug.

I'll try again tonight when I'm at home, fortunately the other rig is still working and connects to the web so i'll be able to search back to this thread later - about seven hours from now.

Thanks again guys, i'll be back on later if you are around.

You never address this issue or did I miss it? Do you in fact have 24 pins connected to your mobo and also the additional 4 pin cpu connected as well? This can make a big difference.

Ah, I see now, when I read that section of the manual, I looked at the table and it shows DIMM 1 and DIMM 2 if two sticks are used. That's where I went wrong.

I'll try tonight, the board isn't touching the case though, I checked that very early on.

Thanks again guys. I'll be back around tonight or morning in your cases.

Sorry Crash,

I have the main large plug connected but have four spre holes in the block on the motherboard, however I have the seperate four pin plug connected to the 12v ATX connector on the motherboard. It states in the manual not to have both four pin plugs connected.

The first time I removed the original Dominator RAM and fitted the cheap strip of RAM she worked perfectly, it has gone downhill since, but I'm confident it will be sorted out tonight - with everyones help of course.

I have never seen that. Usually if the board has a 24 pin main then you should (not always) connect the full 24 pins and also connect the additional 4 pin. Are you sure you read it right. My mobo has 24pin, 4 pin, and a molex 4 pin that all have to be connected. You mmay be having a power issue as in not enough.

Edit: If you are using the Gigabyte mobo then I looked in the manual and see nothing that says that you shouldn't use all the pins I really really think you are having a power problem if you are not doing so. Can anyone else chime in on this?

You know what I think you're right. Why the hell would you wanna run your RAM in single channel?
